Maybe you can find a good parts car some day. Will have to look into those too then, need to feel like taking the Celica seats out to mock fit them.

Maybe one day but thats waaaay down the road. Definitely do because they're honestly my favorite seats.

The biggest issue with any seat swap is getting the new front to match the rear, so will have to recover one or the other if not both so it looks nice. That or maybe certain years of one model would be a close enough match to certain years of the F-body.

I axed the rear speakers on the Celica and the whole car sounds so much better now without them distorting behind me so bad all the time. I didn't know how bad it was till they weren't playing. The BassLink sounds WAY better now, all the muddiness I thought was it were the rear speakers. I'd still like to do this properly, throw some 250hz low pass filters on the rear speakers and then dampen the cavities like I did the front doors and seal them off from the cabin (also like the front doors) and see how they sound. BUT the rear panels suck to take off and the seat belt reels protrude into the big open void below the speakers that I need to seal up. I'll have to do some real work to seal the cavity, heat form ABS panel, fiberglass and resin, I don't know. I would need to get metal mesh to make the shape and then resin and glass it off the car and then trim to fit and screw/glue it in and damn that's a lot of work for what may not even sound any better.

Just leave them out for the weight reduction bro!

Hmm, might could use HVAC tape to seal the cavity easily. Reminds me I still need to get around to finishing up the system in the Firebird, biggest issue was deciding on how far to take it. If I was going to keep a component setup in the doors and hatch area it'd only make sense to run them off an amplifier, then do the same with the subs in the quarters and that'd open up the limited options in 6" subs. Need to sit down and spend some time perusing what's available.

No, it needs to be rigid and it's about a sqft of open area. Anything floppy will just flap around uselessly.

Of course I can't find my roll now but I want to say HVAC tape is some fairly rigid stuff, though with anything else I guess it varies from brand to brand. Next easiest thing I can think of is using thin aluminum sheet metal you could shape by hand in the car and then seal it into place with some seam sealer or structural adhesive.

I like how the highlight of the car is a giant rat's nest. tongue.gif

it lost 1/2 it's horsepower when the mice left.

HVAC tape is aluminum tape, it's strong tape but it's not suitable for covering a cavity that large. Sheet metal would be a royal pain to work with considering the 'cup' I need to make to fit behind the seat belt reel. Fiberglass or heat formed plastic is the way to go. With the plastic I would need to secure it with screws and clips, then heat the area that needs forming, wrap a rag around the seatbelt reel, then just push it into the plastic sheet, reheating it as needed until it fits back to where it has to go. To do the fiberglass I could probably cover the reel with plastic and mold release then build a mold of it and then transfer the mold to a hole in a plastic panel or just resin the mold into a sheet of glass and resin I've made to cover the hole that's flat. But to get the rigidity needed out of glass and resin I would need many layers, it's stinky nasty messy stuff to work with in a closed space like the back seat of the Celica and there's alot of curing time involved too. I think heat forming the plastic is my best bet, I just don't know if a 1/8th sheet of ABS deform enough to do what I want. I may need to do a cut out and then deform a part and bond it to the panel or get some kind of premade shape to bond to the panel.

Nothing like rodent power. laugh.gif

Ah ok, guess it's one of those have to be there in person things to fully understand. Similar issue with the rear speakers on my brother's Genesis, the best way I can think to describe it is to think of a barstool and the cushion is the speaker and the legs mount into the side of the car. So the rear speakers free air and even good speakers don't sound great, there's probably about a 3" inch gap all around. Was thinking the tape or sheet metal but now there's a working heat gun again might try the plastic you're talking about. At any rate it does seem like the formed plastic is your best bet. The only other thing I could think of is to see if there are UV activated sheets of fiberglass or carbon fiber, since you have all the work time in the world and "curing" would only take a matter of seconds.

I'm not sure what makes less sense, the sportscaster or what Toyota did there.

Today ordered gear oil for the 914 and a shift rod linkage cover. The 914 is leaking a fluid and it's near the tranny so I'm pretty sure thats what's leaking as the engine oil remains at the same level. Plus it could use a change.

It's just as good as a Celica, better even. Weighs the same but has two whole spare doors and a cavernous trunk with fold down seats. You could have a 2nd car for cheap so you can break the bird and not even have to worry about getting it running so fast. A 2nd car would let you do more in depth modifications on your own time table. Come on up and get it!
