i bought jdm folding mirrors from one of our members here, but can't figure out how to install them. i know there is sticky about this, but it's huge and messy. the jdm mirrors were taken from '94 st205 allegedly, and my celica is '95 usdm st. could someone help me with this issue? i just need a big picture about the whole installation procedure. i also have a jdm control switch as you can see in the pic. do i need a relay? if so what kind of relay?

I have saved this a while back reading it in that same thread I think :

QUOTE
R516 means that the relay is built into the switch.

See what the label is on your switch.

You may also have to switch housings as that GT4 is probably RHD and your car is LHD, right?
Take one of the mirrors and put it next to your original one, you will see the angle difference.

thanks for your info. smile.gif yes i've read about that somewhere here searching, but wonder why that difference actually occurs. is that because of the attachment angle on the mirror-holding base? (if so, i guess it might be harder to fix it than replacing the whole housing)
regarding the relay, does the necessity of it solely depend on jdm switch? regardless of usdm/production year of my celica?

I don't know what it really depends on when it comes to which switch a car comes with. This is from my 96 ST205 on the right. On the left is the same as yours, bought a pair of mirrors and door wiring.

About the housing it is different because of the side you sit in the car, it has to be angled properly.

ok, i seem to know everything to install the jdm folding mirror now. the sticky is messy but i finally came to understand how to. obviously i need a relay which has a part number 87989-20060. one last thing i need to know is, if i order new oem relay, how can i get the harness w/ 11 wires that goes into the relay box? does it have a part number? or getting used one is the only way to go??

finding a used relay with pigtail harness would be the easiest/cheapest option.

yes i hope i can get a used one w/ pigtail but it's hard to get it. the only one i found was on russian website. frown.gif
so my plan b is getting a new relay box and the harness separately. is it even possible? if so i need part number for the harness.

i experimented wiring with a battery. mirror angle control functions normally but folding did not work. when connected to a battery, it sounds like whirling motor for a few seconds(and it stops) but no folding at all.when i push folding button, there is no click sound at all and nothing happens. i joined all the wires according to color matching. i wonder why this happens and if angle control works, does that mean the relay is not shorted and therefore good? by using two wires of mirrors directly, i checked the folding function and it works on and off(motor is working). if wiring is wrong, i don't think i can make it right and might end up using a separate switch for folding. anyone who has the same experience, please put your 2 cents in. bowdown.gif

*i did wiring according to the diagram below. all colors shown on the diagram were there, but pin arrangement was slightly different. i ended up using color matching, ignoring pin arrangement. Also, i connected #8 of the relay(on the diagram) to (+) of the battery instead of dome.

That diagram is for the 5th gen JDM mirrors.

Use this one.

many thanks! i found the comment below you mentioned on the sticky. were you referring to the 5th gen wiring diagram when you say 'this pic'? i'm a little confused because "this pic" was linked to the right one for 6gc.

"this pic has the polarity mixed up. notice the gray wire for the switch says ground, when it should be 12V power."

i hope my relay was not shorted because of the polarity mix up. i'll try agin on this sunday.

azian, you were wrong about this. the one i used before was the right one. maybe it was a while ago when you worked on this.
'whirling motor' sound was due to broken worm gear inside the motor. i had to fix it up. it was too much work compared to what i initially thought, and i won't do this job again even if i have to. anyway all is working now and i'm pleased.
