That tach adapter is primarily for engine swaps right? My tachometer is broken, and I'm looking to take it apart and diagnose the problem soon. From some online research, it seems like the problem should be solved by just replacing the internal capacitors, but that digital adapter seems interesting (although pretty expensive). I understand that you solved a different problem when working on your tach, but since you had it taken all apart and everything, do you know if the capacitors inside the tach are a common failure point? I apologize if this question isn't relevant to your build, you obviously know a lot about these cars so I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. Just trying to do the job right the first time I remove the gauge cluster from my car. it would be easier to install a new tach. they are easy to install changing capacitors may help. but first make sure the tach is getting a signal. the easier way would be to put a used working tach -------------------- Learned a lot in 10 years... Unless someone has a spare lying around they'd be willing to sell to me for cheap, I think I'm going to have to solve my problem with only my own broken tach to work with. -------------------- |

Is the inside of the cluster modular like it is with the Corolla? In that cluster the speedo and tach are like whole units that just bolt into the carrier and circuit board.

Cost is the main factor.
Even with the MR2 guys, there aren't many. Stef and I have done 3 2gr swaps in MR2s, they are not cheap but hella fun to drive. -------------------- |

well i decided to update the thread, in the last year, will put a summary of what happened.
GT4 hood is no more, i still have it, in storage but is toasted. forgot to lock it, and had no hook at the time... then decided to do something very stupid... cut the OEM hood, did not look nice, looked like a civic.. It did not clear the engine, so i winged it... Took the car to an autocross, event. Made Second place..... woot woot. Only 2 cars in FWD Found a second replacement hood... cut the bracing and rewelded it. it was loose.... It made the hood wavy, but oh well, it works.... Then i got bored and removed some rare things to sell.... lol. rally lamp, sold.... Con Light... I gave it away... Alarm system, well, its there collecting dust, and i dont regret it... Then sent the car to be retinted before a big step.. Welded in a Custom Roll bar, and deleted the rear seats... Then decided to protect the engine.... Moroso oil pain, very expensive.... And then i created version 2 of the pedal bracket, to adjust the height... still needs to be a version 3... but ill get there... lastly the most anticipated event... the Modified ECu, No more check engine light.... I still have the second ECU as a spare.... But this ecu makes driving better by increasing redline... The day i hounded facebook, and made Mike Thoma Upset!!! Tag Him!!!
Put in new brake pads.... And Added Toyos R888, wrapping enkei wheels, Took the car to the first track day, a humbling experience. I dont know how to drive it, and needs more tweaking... lol... Unfortunately keep the car in storage, as i dont want the sun to damage the top and water get in the car, and etc. Why, because I care.... and also this behemoth is taking up its space...
