Had I gotten a Camaro I'd not want to deal with the solid axle bull****, never mind the fact mechanically they're the same car. I barely want to deal with it on the Firebird, even then if it weren't for the fact it is exactly what I've wanted in one and the great owner history I'd probably be selling it and moving on to something else. Though the $700 Watt's link should take care of the issue I'm having, going through turns even semi-aggressively and especially left ones I can feel the axle shimmy some and the rougher and more uneven the road surface the more prevalent it is which is due to the panhard bar's arc and I don't like it at all. It's really not that big a deal so long as you keep it in mind and in check but even after "getting used to it" it's still unnerving and annoying because I can only push so far safely. Then again even with the shimmy I feel more confident in it than I did the Miata, at least I'm not sliding out of the seat and having to hold myself off the door during right turns and trying to hold myself off the dash/console during left turns.

Gah, I can't be 100% happy with any car can I? Looked into hearsay on the SN95 Cobra IRS and it seems to be true, it sucks and needs overhauled to be decent. On top of that and the clutch needing converted plus the chassis needing reinforcement I'm feeling better now.
So the mirror wasn't anywhere the ordeal people made it out to be, there's a notch to place a flat blade screwdriver to leverage the mirror off in all of a few seconds taking my time... Then to discover that indeed the "official bulb list" is wrong which is funny since they say Sylvania is wrong but it was right. Oh well, just have to order some 42mm now. After thinking about it might be able to use them after all, at any rate it's worth waiting another day to see. For some reason they arrived at the post office this morning but weren't delivered. Crap going through the listing and could've gotten 6 x 5050 LED bulbs instead, oh well. I guess I can turn the 3528 x12 into hood lights if they don't do it for me. Pirelli makes some good tires for bikes, Sava aren't terrible if you're on a budget, they're a brand of Goodyear/Dunlop. I hope they do. I hadn't heard of Sava, quick search shows availability from Holland, ironically. I should be on a budget but I didn't want to go for cheapie tires even though this bike is just a Thai special. I considered factory IRC, which are Japanese, but in the end Pirelli had the cheapest available name-brand. So after mounting yesterday, it felt heavy through the handlebars but I thought it might just be me. Shortly after I get wobbling and I look down, front is flat. Shop picks me up, initially say the tube they installed is too small. They pick up the correct tube, then say that I might have picked up a staple. Either way it was nice of them to fix, and I got a free chain adjustment in a few hundred miles. Scary time for a first ride on real streets. Tires are super important on cars, even more so on bikes and cheaping out just isn't worth it on something driven spiritedly or in the case of a bike it's never worth it. I say you made the right choice.

Just won an auction for 20 white 5730x2 194 bulbs that have the diffuser lenses for like a $1.30 shipped, hard to argue with that and definitely worth giving a go.

The heck you gonna do with white ones? White 5730's have a pretty strong blue tinge to them, very very cold white. They look yellow behind amber lens and pink behind red lens. I assume they're the 6 chip kind? Those get HOT as hell in housings too, over 212, mine sizzled spit.

Well for a $1.30 shipped to test the "brand" and design before ordering red and amber ones for more, but I was going to use the white ones for the glove box, center console, ash tray, and tag lights. So only five right off the bat, but again $1.30 shipped. They have two 5730 chips in the base but have some kind of refractive cap, here's the standard BIN listing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/20-X-Xenon-White-H...vUAAOSwFNZWy~~C

Those might not overheat as badly but you're still going to dislike the shade of white they make I think. I also don't think that style will work well for exterior lamps, it'll look like a point of light with little fill, I've seen similar designs scaled up for exterior lamps and they just don't work in 95% of the housings and uses.

I should be messing with my 2nd light pod but due to the holiday I didn't get it because UPS Surepost, local post office was closed. Ditto on some T10 sockets to repair the lamps on that Capri more correctly, also going to try out adding some T10 3014 Red lamps to the unused lamp section in the tail lights for extra tail lamp back there. All 4 sections will light, outer two will get brighter under braking.

From the pictures they looked fairly white but that doesn't mean much, but I practically got them for free and only paid for shipping so it's not a big deal if they end up bleh but going through feedback seemed like everyone that bought them liked them. I still need to decide if I want to convert the tail light wiring or not.

Yea, worst case you give them to your brother. They'd make OK plate lights maybe and should stay lit longer than filament bulbs. I swapped the plate lights for warm white LED's on that Capri (it had some 2830 or 3030 cold white bulbs) and it looks very nice. Brighter than the 194 bulb would be and a little cooler but still warm and appropriate looking. It was outlandishly bright and white before, now it's just right.
And damn that trunk light is awesome! I need to make her an underhood light for the Suburban which will be a cinch since she has a factory one on a reel with an 1156 bulb. I'll get really bright 1156 LED to put in it and also tap off the switch to power the LED panel like I made for the Mazda. I've got all the materials except the LED strip, I'll order another pair and maybe whip up a light for my mom's Mazda too while she's here. The sound dampening and thermal insulation on the Capri hood is nice, it doesn't sound like a tin can and it's muffled some of the engine noise when idling. I can't wait till the shifter bushings are replaced, that'll probably cure some of the problems she's feeling with getting into gear. -------------------- |

Yeah my brother seems to like obnoxiously bright white light anywhere he can have it, which he's already replaced everything on his I think so unless they'd be better than what he already has. I've noticed that here lately there's a lot of warm white LED bulbs being made, I had thought about getting some but wasn't entirely sure.
Trunk and hood lights for everyone! Speaking of shifter bushings I guess I need to remind someone to order them, it'd drive me insane until it was fixed. Then again even with new/better than new bushings I can't foresee it being that great of a shifter in terms of feel. Eyes are starting to cross from searching and looking at all the different LED bulbs available just on eBay and Amazon. I don't have to have the best, but obviously it should be a notable improvement over halogen. I just can't justify spending $15-20 for every pair of bulbs needed, that's easily $200-300 just for all the exterior lights. That said I think if the refractive cap LED bulbs are just meh found these for 194 maybe: http://www.ebay.com/itm/JDM-ASTAR-10pc-T10...O0AAOSwrklVZqI8

I think those are knockoff. Get the ones from Amazon, they're worth it.
