Not to mention the spare tire bracket can mount the amp via a bracket or slab of wood.

I was thinking the same thing, make a bracket for the amp to mount it where the temporary tire was. Guess I'll try and see if there are some posts on how people are running wire through the firewall.

Well that's not good. Sounds like you're probably closer to your family than I am to mine, so I'm sorry to hear that.

Haven't been on in a while, but I did sell my 92 3000gt VR4. Became too much of a headache from a shotty previous owner that hacked more of the car than fixed. But did make a solid profit even with the all the issues listed. Now I can focus my attention to my sc400 and my Celica again!

Thanks guys, it's just surreal in a way you know.. I'm doing ok now I guess, but I struggle with depression all the time so when something like that happens it takes its toll.

I think the 3000GT is the one car that no matter what it's nothing but trouble, over engineering at its finest. There are days I think about manual swapping a SC400 and putting in the LSD out of a Supra, would hit all of my wants in a car. Then again so would LS swapping a Z32 300ZX or FC RX-7 but that's more involved and costly. A '98-00 SC400 with a 5/6-speed and LSD would be a lot of fun, and comfy too.

You'd get ****ing sick of the doors on the SC so fast man...I love those cars but the doors open so weird and it feels like they don't open wide enough.

Hmm, can't be any worse than the stupid long doors of the Firebird and then the giant rocker panel you have to step over. At any rate so long as it's not a complete hinderance to getting in and out I think I could overlook it if I liked the rest of the car enough.

Have you ever gotten in/out of a SC before? The door opens like...1/2 what it looks like it should. My Celica doors swing WIDE open in comparison, all car doors do. The SC though, 1/2.

You can see when Jezza gets out how little the door opens, the MW video shows the hinge closer.

I did like five years ago when I was looking at them before I got the Celica, I don't seem to recall having problems but I'm only 5'10" and I step into cars at an angle anyway. That's ok to be truly happy with a SC it'd have to be a manual with a Supra LSD rather it was the SC300 or SC400, really the same with the 300ZX as it'd need the LSD out of a turbo car. Of course the LSD for either isn't cheap and neither is manual converting a SC400... Same situation with a RX-7 or really any other car that's Japanese or European even, if it wasn't the top performance version there wasn't even the option of a limited slip. The Miata being the one exception that comes to mind, as it's not that hard to find one of them with a LSD since all the M-editions came standard with one as did the regular upper trim package and a few other special editions. It's the one place I can say the domestic manufacturers got it right, all V8 Mustangs and F-bodies came standard with a LSD and GM even offered it as part of a performance package on V6 cars.

It's annoying sometimes getting in and out of places. The hinges are definitely over engineered. But damn it I love that car. Just finished getting the rest of my black interior for it so the swap can happen in the spring time once weather breaks

It's in the works for a manual swap. Trying to find a 350z trans from 06+ that's not a arm in a leg is the first hurdle. But safe to say it will run me a minimum of 3k to get it done. The SC is Truely amazing

If they have kits for using the 350Z trans that'd make me think you could also use the 300ZX trans which would be easier and cheaper to find. Last I looked into it all the kits were for using the W58 or R154, but having options is always nice. I also want to say manual 05+ Frontiers had the Z32 trans for four cylinders and the Z33 trans for six cylinders, so that might help with the search.

Cost is really the biggest detriment, for the cost of the SC400 itself and then after you do a manual conversion and add in the LSD out of a TT Supra you're well beyond the cost of an equivalent condition F-body. Hell these days you're really close to a C5 Vette or GTO and you're into C4 Vette prices. Undoubtedly the Lexus would be nicer, but I'm just not entirely sure if it'd be worth it. It's almost one of those things where life would be easier if I weren't a manual snob since the '98-00 SC400 with the 5-speed auto is actually a really nice car.

Did some looking around for no particular reason and there are kits to use the Z32 5-speed as well and I know they're a strong transmission, plus the the gear ratios of the Z33 6-speed aren't as well suited to a torquey V8 in my opinion. Ratios here for the Z32 and Z33 respectively:
1st: 3.214
2nd: 1.925
3rd: 1.302
4th: 1.000
5th: 0.752

1st: 3.794
2nd: 2.324
3rd: 1.624
4th: 1.271
5th: 1.000
6th: 0.794

As far as using the LSD out of a Supra TT your options are 3.266(manual cars) or 3.769(auto cars) on final drives, so to use the 6-speed and it not be entirely useless you'd need the 3.266 final drive. The 5-speed you could swing either way on the final ratio. For what it's worth the Firebird with the same wheel diameter as the SC has a 3.42 final ratio with the following gear ratios:
1st: 2.660
2nd: 1.780
3rd: 1.300
4th: 1.000
5th: 0.740
6th: 0.500

First gear and second gear I can light the 275/40-17 Sport COMP-2 tires on 9.5" wide rims up on command, sure the LT1 is torquier than a 1UZ(or LS1 for that matter) but not so much so that I would ever see the Z33 6-speed being a good match for the 1UZ. Personally I'd go with the Z32 transmission and 3.266 final ratio, especially in a '98-00 SC400 which has more grunt than the earlier non-VVTi cars. A non-VVTi car I'd probably run the Z32 trans with the 3.769 final ratio. Of course this is just my observations and thoughts on the situation. I noticed the Z32 ratios are very similar to the W58 and R154 where the Z33 is very similar to the V160.
