i hear an annoying sound from the rear shocks (from the top, both sides) when i hit light bumps (like rubber pieces squealing), most of the time when its cold outside. I replaced all shocks with kyb gr2s 2 years ago and the problem appeared 1 year ago and its getting worse. I had the strut mounts replaced too (KYB) at that time. I went to the dealer and they told me it was the top plates (is it the same thing as strut mounts?) Anyone has an idea of what could be the problem?

I forgot to mention : the sway bar bushings have been changed recently - the noise comes more from the top of the shock assembly...

I have a clunking/kind of squeaking (at times) sound coming from the back of my car as well. My mechanic said that my hatch was a bit loose. The plastic in the back isn't properly aligned with the hook on the hatch and also sits a little higher than it should. He told me to try to loosen some bolts on the back of cover and try to bring it down so that the hatch could close more properly. I didn't really listen to every word he said because I was in a hurry, but maybe someone else knows something about this. He said it was definitely the hatch because I just had my struts/shocks replaced (along with mounts/boots and springs).

Also, this sound was from before and after the suspension work.

Hmmm - Toyota quoted me 600$ CDN to change the god damn rear top plates after having a look at it... is this what you all call the strut mounts ? how long should it take to replace those? i know Tirerack sell them for 30$ US each (KYB)

check your cv joints....sound like one is on the go....or is already gone

dammit people! use the search button.... alot of the "clunking" in the rear of our celicas is the sway bar bushings.... replace them...they cost $8 a piece and takes less then an hour to do....

liquor, trying going somewhere else other than toyota.... they will bend you over and do you up the bum!....then when you think they are done, they will do it again

yea, i have the kyb mounts, mine still squeeks..i think its actually a combination of things in my case....the kyb mounts were put in by a local mechanic for me,...the rear mounts are only suposed to be tourqed to like 25ftlbs...they are MUCH tighter than that, and i think that kills the rubber or whatever is in there...and i think my swaybar links also clunk at certian angles..
600?!?!?!? thats RAPE!! lol
