So the Miata and Firebird are side by side in the garage, since they are I went back and forth between them 3 or 4 times. It was like... well think about two things you like to go back and forth between and it was just like that. Anyhow, mostly in testing how everything felt between them and how it felt to be inside them. After testing the clutch with my leg and hand I'd say it's about 5 pounds to depress the Miata's clutch and about 25 pounds for the Firebird, it'd be nice to test them with a push/pull scale though for exact numbers. I like the Firebird's accelerator a lot more, even though the Firebird's is also a hanging pedal it acts and feels like a floor mounted one. All of your throttle input can be done by rolling your ankle and using your foot, whereas the Miata it takes some leg movement. The shifter in the Firebird also feels a lot better, nice and smooth between gears whereas the Miata is notchy. Some people might like notchy because "you can feel where the gears are", but you can feel where they are in the Firebird too and it's totally slick and smooth. Other observations being the seats are about of equal comfort and hold, couldn't really tell you one way or another which I prefer as they're both good. Leg room and head room are ample in both because I'm 5'8", but shoulder room is a lot better in the Firebird. I can have my elbows out like you're popping your back in the Firebird whereas in the Miata it's right next to the door panel. While driving it's not a problem since the left arm being on the wheel pulls it up and away from the door panel, but unless the window is down there'd be no back popping or stretching to be had. Both are nice places to be, though the Firebird is definitely more cavernous. Outward visibility through the front is better on the Miata, I can see the fenders and hood bulge for placing the car whereas the Firebird it's anyone's guess since I only see wiper arms. Hopefully there'll be a warm enough day here soon(because summer tires) where my leg will cooperate and I can drive them back to back in a similar fashion, to try and better establish how I feel about driving them in comparison with each other.

Probably. It's just so gutless, though hopefully the timing advance will help somewhat in that regard. Like just from the couple of times driving it it's not bad from a stop or getting around town, but on the hilly back roads or to go and pass someone on the highway it's terrible. Mountain roads would be even worse. Though can always turbocharge it and solve all those problems. A 240SX might be a little better in that regard if one not beat to Hell and back could be found, since it has a truck motor and what not. After having a V8 backed by a manual I'm just jaded towards engines of lesser cylinder quantity more than ever.

In other news and speaking of the Miata, a 10" 600W RMS subwoofer is going into the trunk because that's what my brother does. I swear... At least with the power antenna and the battery in the trunk it'll be really easy to wire up...

Taking a break from HighOSilver. I found my next purchase for the new year. Just sold srt8 300, now I'm dead set on 00+ C5 z06 manual vette. Test drove a bone stock one and it handled surprisingly well. Gotta do some research on them to way out the pros and cons.

All C5 Z06 are manual. tongue.gif Ehh, really the only thing specifically to look for is 2002 they increased the valve lift without changing the valve springs and it was just enough extra lift to where the springs are known to break. So if you get one immediately change the springs if they haven't already been. The rest is usual C5 Corvette stuff like the brake control and body control module that fail from bad solder joints that're easy enough to fix on your own. Outside of those quirks it's usual used car stuff. As far as the performance to dollar ratio goes they're unsurpassed, especially for what they go for these days. Funny enough the clutch in the Z06 is actually lighter than the standard Corvette, I forget exactly what they did but they changed something in the pedal or hydraulics I believe. At any rate if I had the money I'd get one since it's one of few cars where I think I'd be 100% ok with having it instead of the Firebird. The only thing I foresee not liking about them is they use drive by wire, the C5 was one of the first to do so I believe.

I'm keeping eyes open, I found a 03 z06 black with 25k miles and all services recently done for 17.5k and at the other end of the spectrum I found a clean 01 6 speed non z06, with a binder full of service records and original owner as well with 99k about to be 100k. For 11.5k. I either want black or blue. I despise red with a passion, even tho the majority of previous sports cars have been red. Always the cheapest price

Between the two I'd go for the Z06, $6K gets made up in mileage alone never mind the fact all of the Z06 benefits over a base car. If anything that Z06 sounds suspiciously under priced for the mileage.

Private seller, always garage kept. I found one at a dealership for 22k with similar mileage and options. But the one I've went and looked at already, the owner has over 10 cars, does have a nsx, a couple old school bomber car from the 30-40 Era, a newer vette, couldn't tell you the year, a 99 vr4 and some random imported car from the 80s. I've meet him years ago at a vr4 meet and didn't realize it until he mentioned my chameleon paint job vr4 when we were talking about the old time meets. He wanted 20k originally

Speaking of cars and finding them, I found what may be the world's last decent and mostly stock manual S13. Only problem is it's the coupe, which would need a Silvia conversion pronto. It's like the Celica coupe, would need a Curren conversion pronto. That and it's like in Virginia or something, otherwise if it were nearby I'd check it out in person to see how I like them. Clutch weight mostly, but I can't foresee it being that heavy and outside of the realm of cars like the Miata and Celica. I think if I were to get a 240SX it'd have to be a '91-93 liftback or a S14, which I think after looking at them more and more I might like the zenki S14 more so than the kouki. The zenki kind of reminds me of the R33 Skyline, whereas the kouki looks like it's angry from being squished by a sumo wrestler sitting on it.

Well I told the guy I'm very Interested and that I won't be making a purchase until February or March. I Wanna get rid of a couple more cars so I have some extra room and money to throw at the car. I highly doubt alot of people wanna purchase a rwd car in the snow.

C5Z thumbsup.gif Ilike the looks of the C6 and C7 better but the C5Z is the best bang for the buck.

For what it’s worth, my BEAMS running on three cylinders pulled harder than a dual cam KA S14. There’s a reason not many of them are stock. You get the speed of a Miata without the handling, but on the upside at least the top won’t leak. S13 hatches have always been my favorite of the 240’s. Is the coupe you found a pig nose?

In other news, I think I’ve seen more bad Facebook mechanics this week than I have all year. laugh.gif Part of me knows I should step in and say something, but I frankly can’t be bothered to argue with idiots. And if the people with issues refuse to search and want to take literally the worst advice they can get from Facebook, I’ll let them learn hard lessons.

Oh hey, I need some guinea pigs to help me figure out if this is placebo or actual. Grab a bottle of TCW3 grade 2 stroke oil and mix in 1oz per 5 gallon of gas and report back any changes in idle, mpg, smoothness, etc. I can't tell if it's in my head or for realsies.

If he's advertised online someone from down south might get it, we don't have snow except for once in a blue moon. Hopefully for your sake you can get it before someone else.
