Hey guys! After a long while of not having a 6gc, I finally found one! It's quite the interesting car. It's a 1994 GT liftback 5 speed. Power everything and an aftermarket alarm with fob. Seats are in almost new condition, interior is in great sape, a few tiny discrepencies in the dash but nothing bad. Advan 17" rims, lowering springs, some weird muffler on it, Kouki tails and SSIII grill on the facelift bumper, not sure what the skirts are and kinda have mixed feelings on them. Would much rather have OEM skirts but we'll see how the ones that are on look after a paint job. Anyways here's some history.. A few owners ago she was getting some good treatment. Aftermarket goodies, JDM goodies, the works. Then she started getting neglected. Sitting outside in the hot SoCal sun, probably being beat on, and even a little crash in the front.. They threw on a new bumper, hood, and fenders and continued to drive it until they got bored of it which is where cha boi comes in. After some talk with the owner I checked it out and noted some things.. Body isn't too bad but clearly needs a paint job. Engine runs great. Idles nice, starts fine. But the drive is different. It's got a new clutch in it but accelerates really slowly. I know the 5S isn't all that quick but this is not how I remember it being. Something is robbing my power and I'm not quite sure what it is. Anyways it rides pretty smooth. Suspension is pretty good, brakes were new, sounds like a bearing might be on its way out(shocker), and have a clunk every now and then but I'll fix it in time. The trunk cables were pretty messed up so they had a wire hanging out of the back to get into the trunk. Also have a few exhaust leaks.. One from around the manifold and another from I think the flex pipe but not exactly sure.. I planned on getting exhaust work done anyways. The engine is not original. Engine in the car now has only 127k but I can't say the same for the transmission. I have a little grocery list of problems to take care of but it serves great as a daily right now! Might be here a lot for some help as it's been a while since I've worked on one of these so if I say something dumb or don't seem to know what I'm talking about then I apologize!

Stand by for images as I figure out what source to use.. just look at the profile for pictures for now!

I was expecting something with bright paint advertising candy or a fast food joint on 22's at first, but glad that isn't the case.

As far as the sluggishness, could just need a tune-up and the timing set. Possible the catalytic converter is clogged as well.

glad to see you back. photobucket has screwed alot of us over with photos so you're gonna have to find a different way of linking pics but we're all working on it as well.
car looks great and power issue aside, a great buy.
btw, the skirts are your typical vader/veilside aftermarket skirts.

I've found Flickr to be a nice replacement for PhotoBucket, Flickr has a mobile app for phones to make uploading pics easy and they make embedding and sharing pics fairly easy as well.

Hahaha if that were the case I might have avoided it! I did give it new plugs and wires a few days ago and working on a few other pieces as well. Had a recent oil change but coolant is looking a little bit dirty so a flush will be coming up soon. Also just noticed my EFI Relay is messed up so that's wonderful. Have to keep a little piece of paper towel pushing on the contact to keep it going until I pick up a new one. It idles nicely but it revs slowly. Driving up a hill is pretty terrible. My foot can be hitting the floor and it just wont do it. I am gonna be checking out the fuel filter today as well as some vacuum lines since i discovered one wasn't connected last night. Anything else you recommend I should look at that may be affecting it's performance? It's been a while since I've worked on any vehicle so I'm taking baby steps. As for uploading pictures, I have Flickr but can't figure out how to get the right link to upload the pictures on here.

Yup go to BBCode and just copy and paste the img brackets and what's between them.

As far as performance goes a vacuum leak could definitely cause it to run poorly, would check and make sure all of those are connected properly and aren't leaking. Timing being off can cause poor performance as well. There's a million things really, just have to go through all the small stuff.

So silly me while cleaning some crap out of the throttle body and putting everything back together I forgot to clamp the air filter box and turns out it runs a lot better getting being its getting more air which leads me to think the air filter would be bad but it's new.. Should I just get a CAI?
As for the pictures it keeps saying "dynamic pages in the [IMG] tags are not allowed"

You could go true cold air so as to not hurt performance, but it'd be for noise more than anything.

As far as images go here's what the embed link looks like:

What you want to paste is in red(I added a second / to break code and show) so then you end up with:

Yeah its in rough shape, good luck bringing her back to life. The engine bay look good though, pretty clean.

Since you already have an alarm and key fob, add a trunk popper.

Here is the one I used

Yeah she's prety rough around the edges but I hope to have it restored to looking as good as it did new. Right now making sure she can get me from point a to b before the real fun begins but she is in good hands now and I will see to it that she gets the love she needs! And I will check that out thanks for sharing the link! Install pretty easy? I have the trunk button on the fob so all I have to do is set up the connection?

Pretty late update here. Around November I finally got around to some much needed exhaust work. Both cats were plugged and the car ran like poop because of that so being that the car is now registered in MN and isnt't required to SMOG, I gutted both cats and replaced the blown out flexpipe which restored some power as well as made it sound pretty good! Then shortly after I removed those hideous side skirts that were on and replaced the rims with 7GC 16s.

Then begun the repainting. I originally started with black and was slowly applying more and more coats to the car before work got in the way and I started spending weeks and months away from the car. The California sun was taking its toll on the unfinished paint and it started looking like butt. Becuase of that I sanded it down and started over. This time instead of black I figured I'd go with Dark Blue Pearl since I couldn't easily get my hands on Baltic Blue Metallic(I'm impatient and didn't want to deal with ordering online lol). The pictures I'm posting now are of the car as it sits, also unfinished as I leave tomorrow for an at sea exercise with my unit for 2 weeks. Once I get back there will be a few more coats of the paint itself and clear coats as well. I'm not expecting a professional look out of it by any means and I know that it still won't look perfect but it's a learning experience for me and I think it will look a lot better than how it looked when I first got the car.

Some other little things I have done is replaced the racing steering wheel with a 7GC steering wheel. Haven't got around to hooking up the horn yet and still need to get a clockspring but damn does it feel a lot better than the racing wheel did! I also replaced the crappy old Kenwood deck with a newer Dual deck. It's cheap and ****ty but hey it's got bluetooth and does the job!
I replaced the hatch back in January as well. The old one as some might see in the old pictures, was rather beat up and had some bad paint. Saw a black 94 GT sitting in the local yard (RIP) and pulled the clean hatch off of it for mine. Booty looks a lot better with it!

With as much work as I have put in the car, my end goal is to make sure it is fully functioning and has ZERO problems with drivability and looks somewhat decent come June. I deploy in July and will be driving my hooptie all the way to MN from Cali in June where it's getting passed on to my little brother for him to learn how to drive stick as well as work on his own vehicles and whatever else his young heart desires. He absolutely loves the car and I have a feeling he will do great things when I pass it on to him. Now this doesn't mean I'm out. No sir no. When I'm done with my deployment I will either have a ST205 imported or simply find another 204 and do fun things to it!

End of my rambling. Here is car:

Brah how come I never see you at any of the meets!?!?!?! But I guess I cannot complain when you're nearly an hour from the cities.
Should've waited for the Baltic Blue so we can both can run Baltic Blue!!! The paint looks really good though.
If I may ask which shop did you take it to and how much did it set you back?

Well I'm not in MN lately. I'm stationed in CA. But yeah I would have loved to go Baltic Blue but when I saw the Dark Blue Pearl man I liked it. I did the paint myself. It's not perfect but it's a work in progress! I'll be in MN sometime in June. Let me know when there are meets and I'd love to make it to a few before I deploy!

Ahh okay, I didn't know you were in the military. Thank you for serving bro!
I see, yeah once I get all my exterior mods in order I wanna do some body work and repaint as well.
Sounds good man I'll definitely let you know if there's any in June lol. Sadly we're not large in MN in general lol.
