If he wanted to learn stick then that'd be a thing, but he has no desire whatsoever to learn and wants an automatic. He says his primary concern is efficiency and reliability, but when I've mentioned cars like the Celica, MX-3, SC2, etc... those seem to capture his attention more than say something like a Corolla or any other sedan. Though you'd think if efficiency was such a concern he'd want to learn stick since in those years and those kind of cars the stick was a lot more efficient. Which I've explained you don't have to like working on cars in order to like cars themselves, I HATE working on cars for most things but it saves money and I know it's done right. It was after that he started to seem more interested in something like the Celica, so perhaps there is hope after all. Of course the only cars with sticks to teach him are the Firebird, the Genesis, and the A4. Out of all of them the A4 would be most behooving

Eh, it started life as an auto, just swap it all back. Or pick it up together and teach him how to drive it on the way back, there's plenty of time. You could do the drive in a day.

I have to redo the pictures because the wheels are clean(er) now, although the paint is soft so they just tend to get filthy. Whoever buys it will chuck them anyway.

I learned how to drive stick in 10 minutes driving a Honda Civic by myself, it's really not hard to learn the basics. Am I good at it? Hahaha no. Could I drive a car from one place to another without causality or calamity? Probably. Just please god no steep hill starts without a hand brake, hand brake is good, hand brake is life, must have working hand brake!

I know, but he's 100% against learning manual. Which for a first time driver an automatic is probably for the best anyway, one less thing to worry about. Which after spending an hour or two looking at different cars and somewhat going through specifications he's decided he likes the 7th generation Celica the most by a fair bit. I tried to push the 6th but he doesn't like the front end, something about the headlights and how there're the blisters on the hood and fenders off them. Which is what I like about them, but oh well... I'm not as familiar with the 7th gen, but I think the 1ZZ is supposed to be fairly problem free aside from in the MR-S where it sucks in the catalytic converter and fubars the cylinders. No idea on what to look for with the automatics in them, aside from the usual check fluid and try to see if it goes from gear to gear without any slipping.

It MUST either have a later model (03+) 1ZZ swapped in it or be an 03+ model, otherwise it very likely will suffer oil consumption. Honestly the automatic 1ZZ Celica is a Corolla coupe with slightly better suspension, you might as well take the 2 doors and trunk extra because a 1ZZ+automatic is just...there's no fun to be had. At least I have some buttons and can hold gears.

'03+ got it, will definitely keep that in mind since the price difference is minimal from '00-05. Thing is though it's his first car and at least the 7th gen Celica catches his eye, will be fun to drive outside of straight lines, is usable as a car, and is anemic and predictable enough to not get him into trouble. That and I don't think he cares for springing for 93(since we only have 87, 89, 93) over 87 for 40 horsepower and on average 6 miles less to the gallon, or spending more to get the car itself. Plus at least the Celica was still made in Japan by Toyota and not by more or less GM in California like with the Corolla etc... I dunno, I just don't find the American made Japanese brand cars to be as good as the Japanese made ones. My Celica was a lot nicer than my lady friend's Corolla of similar vintage, though her colour was better(blue vs red) so there was that. Anyhow, the American market Celica short of the ST162/165/185 have always been more or less a Corolla or Camry coupe in terms of drive-train. It's not like it's for me, in which case it'd have to be a GT-S 6-speed PERIOUD(and NOT red), it's for a brand new driver with absolutely no reference point at all and if the looks of the 7th gen Celica get him to remotely care about having a car and being able to drive and get somewhere in life then who cares if it's the GT automatic that he wants.

He said he thought he hit something slick on the track in that spot with either one or both tires, he wasn't into the corner too fast...that time. I can see the other two cars he was following went wide there (like they knew) and there's a few skid marks from others spinning there also, could be as simple as some sand kicked onto the track from one spin out earlier. No harm, no foul, tons of fun!

I'm so jealous of him, I wish I could get my slow ass Celica out on a track like that!

I want to get the Firebird on a track so I can fully utilize like maybe half of it. Actually what I want to do is get out on a track with some instructors first, so then I could maybe fully utilize 90% of it.

It's days like today where it doesn't matter if my car was an automatic as I couldn't drive it anyway, my legs have decided to commit treason against me and refuse to work and feels like they're in vice grips. It's like all those elderly help commercials you used to make light of because, "Who seriously can't get up when they fall down?" and at 26 you're in that boat. When it takes everything you have to get out of bed or out of a chair...

Side note; that moment you realize you're getting old when you have classmates that have kids in grade school and all these "Back to School" ordeals that made you and them cringe not so long ago now apply to their offspring. At times I feel like that line from Joe Walsh, "Everybody's so different, I haven't changed."

I had many things to do this weekend and today, I did exactly none of them due to being exhausted from much less sleep than I'm used to and the terrible humidity and heat. When it's 90 with a heat index of 103 something is wrong. I took Erin to the airport at like 4AM (getting back around 5:30) on Friday morning, went to work at 8, got home around 6:30, finally was able to fall asleep around midnight, awoken at 4AM to hail loud enough I went out and threw a blanket atop the rear glass of my Mazda, then tried to go back to sleep and once the storms passed around 5AM I was back out to awaken at 8AM! Did some crap around here to take care of the dogs, went to my aunties and made her dump bed golf cart run once again, came back around 6, went to bed around midnight after a couple late night dog walks, and today managed to sleep in till 10 somehow. Only to have to go to the airport at midnight to get her then try to sleep when I get home to work at 8 again but in the miserable humidity all day. I think it might be a short day at work due to the weather being so rough, indoors but not air conditioned, dry heat is one thing. I can do 100+ in dry heat, just stay hydrated, sweat it out, and have some airflow to evaporate and cool off. When it's 70%+ humidity the sweat won't evaporate so fans don't do very much and it's easy to overheat.

Believe it or not, I miss humidity. It was easy to take care of our yard in the Midwest, but here I just have a back yard that simply won’t grow anything. We’ve fertilized, amended the soil, added a sprinkler system, tested the pH, and nothing will grow because we can’t keep it damp enough to get anything started.

After many months of complaining, I changed the brakes on the 4Runner. I think it was totally unnecessary though. They were fine...

You can take Alabama's constant 70%+ humidity.

Gone for 12 days and takes until yesterday for anything to happen here, I really am the life of the party aren't I? Just not really feeling up to coming around when there's nothing automotive going on, plenty of other **** I'm sure no one wants to hear about though.
