Hmm, must be regional pricing. Salt probably drives up prices here.
Why the Si? The GTS is a lighter car with good suspension. The Si is nice but it feels like a different kind of car than a GTS, less sports-y and more tour-y? -------------------- |

The Si is nice but it feels like a different kind of car than a GTS, less sports-y and more tour-y? Probably, it's not unheard of for people to buy vehicles from dry states and resell in salt states. Easier to find in general, but especially as desired since all 8/9th gen Si are 6-speed with LSD and side airbags. I just want a reliable, safe, somewhat comfy car that's fun to drive in some regard. Not 100% set in stone at this point, but it's time to get something we can get our lives on track with. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Makes sense then, Si would be a more comfy car than the GTS, the added weight really helps on the highway and poorer roads. It's only like 300lbs but that's like adding 2 passengers to a GTS. I haven't ridden in a stock Celica suspension in so long I can barely remember but it wasn't what I'd call a plush ride out of the gate. Have you considered just a cheap sedany-wagony thing like a Vibe or Matrix or CRV? Can be had in stick, roomy, good on gas, cheap to buy and cheap to repair. Even a 1st gen Rav-4, if stick is an E153 gear box and it's a 3S-FE which means a 3S-GE or 3S-GTE is a likely swap later on if you love it enough to keep it. AWD 3S-GTE Rav-4 is like a lifted GT4! I think I'd like to stay away from an C/SUV simply because riding that high is a bit unnerving to me, and anything with a floaty suspension is physically nausiating to me. I used to get really car sick in my mom's brand new 2000ish malibu (So much so that we had it for a grand total of 5 days, despite buying it new) and I absolutely hated the RX350 I had to drive once in a while. I have owned both an 8th and 9th gen Si. The 9th is much more fun to drive, but only because of that 40ish additional fl-lb of torque. IMO at the absolute limits the K24Z7 is the best NA honda 4cyl motor to date, capable of holding 400ish WHP without ****ting itself. The transmission was always the weaker point on any Civic Si. -Lorelei -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

I was thinking the Si might be comfier; as an old friend had a base model 8th gen sedan, and for an entry level car it rode quite nicely(though the Si is 40%? firmer). I have my limits! Mostly though I just want something that's fine as is from the factory, and not really mess with it; save the shenanigans for whatever project car we end up with down the road. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Eh I wasn't too impressed with the rev hang in the 8th gen Si I drove but it wasn't as bad as some newer cars, generally Honda is pretty good with throttle modulation on their drive by wire systems. Erin used to have an 08 8th gen, it was a competent car that seemingly was assembled by incompetent Canadians. The door to fender gaps were all wrong and the doors rubbed the fenders and then the clear coat started failing. I had to fix the alignment on the rear and put it out of spec to get the car to track correctly over bumps at highway speeds, Honda spec alignment caused the back to want to jump to one side or the other when hitting gaps and bumps on the roadways at higher speeds. Once I set to rear toe out of spec and nearer to zero it tracked straight regardless of bumps and gaps. Overall a good car with some issues that didn't live up to Honda reputation anymore. The few I've worked on in the shop only one was a Si, the rest various regular trims, but all didn't feel like they wore like a Honda should wear inside over time and goodness the modules and electronics in the 8th gen Civic...but I think everything from around then was about as bad even some Toyota cars.

From my understanding the revhang is easily tuned out thankfully. I've heard clear is an issue on them, that and stuff like shifter bushings. For whatever it's worth the 10th gen Corolla my father had was an utterly cheap piece of garbage. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Oh yea, not a big fan of the Corolla past the 8th or 9th gen, 9th gen and up went to a beam rear axle that really cheapens the ride. Comparatively a 7th gen feels like a Lexus on the highway. The newer engines are nice though.

It's too hot here, how bad is it there? Its hotter than the blue blazes erupting from Satan's ball sack. On another note... Been having some messy dreams recently. Keep having dreams about the sun setting me on fire. -Lorelei -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Hmm, perhaps an '05-07 G35 coupe 6MT if I want another heavy pig. Would be RWD and torquey though, which I tend to prefer. Should be comfy too.

I'm sorry, but even with the signatures, this is getting confusing....
Lorelei: You should just keep posting with your profile so that you can get out of post-purgatory. At least then, it won't seem like Casey is talking to herself. Anyway, I'm done complaining for now. I hope everyone had a safe and happy fourth. -------------------- ~bloodMoney

The thought of a 3s-gte in a rav4 made me chuckle a bit. Sounds like a blast of a little sleeper, but my grandma loved a 1st gen to pieces lol its hard for me to see one anymore without thinking of her behind the wheel. also I'm still having some trouble getting my posts to show, how many posts do I have to make before they don't need to be approved anymore? |

Leathers came from lseat.com, look good, 99% perfect. One missed inch of stitch where it doesn't matter and it IS a bonded leather material which is good for car use as it's more durable.
So I'm pretty sure they're farming the work out to a foreign shop though and that's why it takes so long, they probably batch ship orders in and then re-ship them. Weird that a little place in Texas would heat seal the inner bag with the leathers in them. Not that I care, good price and good product. So I took a better look, just the sides and back are the bonded leather stuff, seating surfaces are actual hide leather! I can't figure out if the centers are synthetic or real suede though, I specified synthetic. Care and feeding are obviously different between the two of them, I don't want to find out the hard way.
Yeah, I'll get some pictures when they're done. When I asked for centers I guess that mean the WHOLE middle not just the center sections so the WHOLE middle is this material. It's my fault for not being more specific, I'll learn to like it even though it wasn't exactly what I was expecting. It's just a bit more striking. I do get TWO seat back pockets now though so that's cool! -------------------- |

Got the Firebird listed on Facebook marketplace, had a trade offer for an '02 Mustang GT pretty much instantly. Oh well, if only it was something I wanted.
