Reduced the throttle cable slack and inspected the air filter, as it's a remotely new Wix I just rotated it 180° to put the clean side over the duct entrance. Still has the original Koito headlight bulbs, so more reason to upgrade to 9011/9012 bulbs. Tried to see if the plug wires had been replaced but it's hard to tell, they seem to be pliable and in good shape though.

Ordered NGK wires and boots, NGK V-Power "extended reach" plugs, Wagner 9011 & Hella 9012 bulbs, Mahle fuel filter, fuel line clips & removal tool, Motorcraft oil filter, and Trico beam blades off RockAuto. Also ordered Redline power steering fluid off Amazon earlier. So now I just need to pick up oil for the engine, transmission, and differential and maintenance will be fully caught up for awhile.

My spark plug choice would have been a Denso 4701, https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk...027&jsn=410 RockAuto seems to have bungled up that page a little bit and mixed in some literature from their Platinum TT spark plug too, disregard the last two bullet points since they're talking about the wrong plug. It's the same design that's being used as OEM in most new Japanese cars and lasts a long time even under harsh conditions with minimal change in gap or performance. They run exceptionally well in my 2ZZ, better than the previous Iridium Power or whatever 'high performance' plugs I got. When those standard NGK plugs wear out try these. Supposedly the Miata runs best with the V-power plugs, and in particular ones that move the electrode 2mm further into the combustion chamber. Allegedly they help with the lower RPM range in particular, and across the board. Spose we'll see.

My edit didn't save, says same 19mm reach on the Denso. Do they mean projected electrode?

Ok digging into the spark plugs.
2262 is 10k ohm, 4291 is 5k ohm like OEM, both extended reach V power, but the 4291 is a heat range 6 which is one step colder. Unlikely to cause any issues and more durable if the engine gets modified or is ran on the track. Higher resistance spark plugs are harder on the wires and ignition coils but wear slightly longer because there's less spark current eroding them, trivial difference in practice. Extended reach is nice, but having the substantially reduce spark shrouding of the twin tip Denso style spark plug may do the same end result. If you really want to get pedantic you'd get plug shims and align all your spark plugs so the gap faces the intake valves. https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Shim-Dex-14F...4-Pk,68019.html I know you like pedantry, dooooo iiiiiittttttt. -------------------- |

Yup, the electrode is about 2mm further out hence them being "extended reach" for the Miata. Here's the original 6953:

I think being a wasted spark setup could be why it allegedly helps. I was going to go for the new Ruthenium plugs, but they're only available in the standard Miata spec. Meh, not like plugs are hard to change on a Miata or all that expensive. So if I don't like the 2262 I'll change them out after 10K miles.

If the old plugs are worn just fresh plugs will feel a lot nicer. Don't forget to clean the MAF if it's a hotwire style.

Would explain why you're so salty. This calls for a pun off. Sorry for being such a Salty beach. Why don't you make like a seagull and flock off? I ordered some red/yellow conspicuacy tape to apply to strategic portions of the rollbar, I figure every little bit helps with improving visibility.
