Hey guys...i am about to get a tax return that will be enough for an apexi S-AFC and i was wondering if it is worth it before i just drop the 400 bucks on it? How much of a difference will i notice?...how much time would i drop at the track? Is it hard to install?? How would i tune this to my engine? or would you guys sugest i take it to a shop and have them install it and tune it as well? would dyno tuneing work?...sorry its alot of questions guys but i 400 dollars is alot of money to just throw away without knowing any info on the item! Thanks alot guys,

Paul

if you have a non-turbo engine that is a pretty good deal. You can do a lot with that. Ask west_minist, he knows a lot about that part. Seriously. He does.

what other mods do you have? a properly tuned S-AFC on a GT with i/e would probably give you 15-20 hp. the key is proper tuning, you need some time on a dyno inorder to properly set it, or you will have minimal gains or even losses if you really screw it up. its a sound investment but I would invest in other things first, for example a underdrive pulley or header. but its up to you.

also fyi, 400 for a s-afc is a bit of a rip-off. look for something in the ~300 range.

Well...would it be easier to go with the Venom 400 control module or the jet ECU upgrade? What is the best bang for my buck in the computers? or could i mix and match...say the jet chip upgrade and the Apexi S-AFC or the jet chip and Venom ...or all 4? what works...i know nothing about computers for our cars someone educate me!!

My goal is to get 200 hp with out turbo, the reason i want to do this is because i dont like turbo lag! now every post ive read in the past says build your computer before you do your bolt-ons. so im taking everyones advice..i already have an intake and im ordering the greedy SP in april.

Here goes.

I have research this product on functionality basis.

It is easy to install once you do not get frightened for wires. I think the manual (which can be downloaded from there sight) have the celica ECU's inside.

As gh0st_d0g stated, you need good tuning to get good power out of it.

Invest in a meter like Gtech/Pro Competition for testing HP amnd 1/4 miles times.

jet chip and venon unit will do if the venon have fuel controls.

I am not a chip person. I consider them to be a waste of money since there are not easily programmed.

To fully utilise the Apexi S-AFC, you will need to include these in your tuning:

A) A/F Ratio gauge (A must)

B) Fuel Pressure gauge (lets you know if the fuel pump can keep up.)

c) Temperature gauge (hot engines produces less power)

1) Good cold plugs (if driving hard)

2) Nology Hotwires (more current to the plugs)

3) Nology Profire M80 coil (more current tot he plugs)

4) Crane Cams HI-6TRC (comes with timing control) (hell is very hot)

5) Good air Filter (K&N) (good air flow to mix w/ that extra fuel)

6) Good Header (HP Racing 4-2-1) (allow more exhaust gas out of the engine)

7) Good high flow exhaust. (HKS, Greddy, Tanabe, Magnaflow) (allow more exhaust gas out of the engine)

8) Adjustable Fuel pressure regulator w/ fuel pressure gauge (allow more fuel to the ssytem without max out the injectors) (reduce injectors duty cycle)

9) And later on, a slightly bigger cams like 254 -262 degrees (more torque, more HP, more air to the engine)

10) Lightened Flywheel. (rev alot more easy.)

I am sorry. I could never remember what the 5SFE does. the 3SGE is always on my brain.

200+ setup. + using the safc to get more.

Remember that the safc is a fuel computer. It can only do as how much the engine can do.

I guess any header can work for that engine. I do not know what is the flow rate and the gain that you can get from that header.

You'll notice a nice difference with the s-afc. my boyfriend has it on his 90 gt-s and it greatly improved the performance of the car. i personally think it's worth the money (although you might want to look into getting a used one - $400 is alot of money)

Get the S-AFC. If you get the Venom and get a new car, you can transfer the Apex over where the Venom is pre tuned. (also, if tyou get a new engine.)

Careful when buying on eBay...there are infact 2 types:
S-AFC and S-AFC II.
The main difference is the S-AFC does 500rpm increments and the S-AFC II does 200rpm increments + has a lot more functionality.
The S-AFC II sounds really good and you should be able to pick it up for c$300/350.

I'm looking into getting one.
Pb. I have is finding someone with a dyno setup/capability.

EDIT: I'm buying Headers first though.

Get an Airfuel ration and a Apexi Rev speed meter. You will need no dyno. (Or so apexi claims. They are, after all, about the best with electronics.)
