i though its like 40-50% although i do no have one... I was kinda thinking that you might as wel save your 160-180 bucks.. or shifters are not bad at all, compared to some of my friends cars... also they can screw up your sinq... an its a lot of freaking money.

Short throw reduces the shift length by 40-50%, it is not a 40-50% decrease in shifter length. I don't have one either (YET!) but I think you're pretty close Mac.

actaully mac, theyre not even that much shorter i think. i have the trd quickshifter, is not made to be a "shorter" shifter, its made to shorten the throw between shifts, and does so QUITE well.. biggrin.gif

it will make the shifter shorter, yes...but its not the same..its more of the angle of the trd shifter that affects the throw

first i wouldnt sugest it, my buddy did it to his car an it srcewed a few things up, although he does not have a celi. And Its not the angle, im sure what you even talking about, its a shorter distance in the rod, points were there onnecting, there for it engaes to each gear with less movement and force...

if you compare the two, they are vituallly the same length.
they are ANGELED diffrently which shortens the throw between shifts.
the bottom half of the shifter rod has more angle to it.
thats what i am talking about. biggrin.gif

thanks pressure. That actually cleared up alot of things. I didn't think a "short shifter" was just shorter but my friends insisted. My buddy shortened his talon's shifter by cutting and it was sh!t afterward. I could hardly put it into 5th without using the palm of my hand. But the TRD angled short shifter sounds like the way to go.

Some people cut the oem shifter in three places. They move the piece with the pivot point to a higher position.

[=o=][==][=O <----the first piece is the one with the pivot. The last is the shifter.

[==][=o=][=O <-----they weld it back with the pivot at a higher location.

I know it sucks but its the basic idea.

EDIT: Atleast that was what i was told. biggrin.gif

there for it engages to each gear with less movement and force...

Most short shifters actually increase the effort it takes to shift. That's a common by-product of reworking the angles of the shifter. The factory designed it to reduce effort (hence the factory knob being so heavy). To shorten the throw, you would have to increase effort.

My short throw shifter is from TWM, and was cheaper than the TRD unit. Still works great after two years, too. wink.gif
