I bought a 94 Celica GT last year and fell in love with the car. However, one of the things that has been annoying me is the engine seems to crap out at around 4500 – 4800 RPM. The specs for the engine I have seen have it putting out peak HP at 5400. I am going to have some engine work done and wondered if I should have this looked in to or is this par for the course.

*edit* Errm 5S-FE that is ... To bad you can not edit titles confused.gif

I dont think that's really a problem, US spec 6gc's often have little to offer on the top end, unless you're gonna boost. I believe the torque pretty much gets you there, and the lack of horsepower really shows on the top end.

actully the 5sfe takes very well to headwork. but for more simple bolt on parts that will open up the top end a bit. get an intake, header, exhaust, should give you an awsome 8whp..(least from the dynos from NA mr2's same engine though) but it gives you a broader powerband. opens up the top end a bit.

What type of "headwork" are you refering too? I am planning to have the head gasket replaced and a valve job so far.

No... just port/polish/gasket matching, etc... Cams/valves/valvetrain would be a step up from that. A head gasket and valve job is mostly maintence, replacing head gasket, refinishing the surface, reseating the valves, it's all maintence associated with a headgasket/valve job. It might slightly increase performance depending on how it's done...

No... dealers don't modify stock parts (unless it's something they cover under warantee)...
