I raced a friend of mine who drives a gst w/ 18s and lost. yeah, i already knew the outcome, but I was bored and just wanted to see if his car was really a gst because I heard rumors that it was an rs. well looks like you wasted $100

Just plain and simple. USDM celis are slow and any racing is pointless. Mitsus are generally faster engines (although all other things are crap)
Just race him for the fun of it.

The only good thing i know about mitsus are their Turbo. It is supposed to be very well made. As i understand, Saab uses Garrett turbos for some of their cars but a Mitsu Turbo for their latest 9.3 Aero.

Wanna know if it's a gsx, easiest way. . .get behind him in traffic. Unless he is dropped over 1.5 inches you'll see the back axle sticking down, it'll be silver while everything else is black. Not hard to tell a gsx from just the stance, they look wider in the rear than a gs or gs-t.

Turbo is in the front by the radiator..Remember, its a 4cyl so there is only one exhuast manifold in the front just like the celicas. The turbo is spooled off the manifold.

QUOTE (hioctane @ Apr 5, 2004 - 10:35 PM)
when will people get the fact that our celica is simply slow?
I keep on seeing thread after thread about people wanting to race cars that are a lot faster than ours excluding the 3sgte gt4 people. What's next? Some guy is going to challenge a viper? confused.gif

Yeah... it irritates me as well, but there's nothing I can really do but try to educate.

It's exactly where I said it would be. =)

Also 19s will increase top speed so once hes got momentum he'll hand you your ass again.

I don't think that's true. Bigger and heavier wheels will actually slow you down.

If they are heavier it will take more energy to get a 19" rim to a certain speed as opposed to a 17" rim, but per rotation your covering more ground with a 19" rim assuming the total diameter including the rubber is larger. So a gsx with 19"s will come out faster in each gear compared to a gsx with say 16"s, but obviously the car with the smaller rims will accelerate quicker.

So by your example of the two GSX's, in a long distance run, where the two cars reach top speeds, the GSX with the 19" wheels would benefit more? But if it were a short distance run (i.e. 1/4 mile) the GSX with the 16" wheels would win, correct? The reason why I'm asking is because when I used to hit the tracks, I would run 16.6 to 16.7 on the 1/4 mile (16.545 was my fastest). However, once I got the new wheels, I started running 16.9 to 17.2.

Exactly!

The ST is slower, he just doesn't know how to race and 19" wheels didn't help him either. But congrats on the win! 100 bucks can go a long way. wink.gif

lol.

Its easy to beat any N/A eclipse with a Celica. Those cars are SLOOOOOOW. I'd beaten a few Eclipses in my school with my ST and most of these people just dont know how to drive, but Eclipse's (except for GST/GSX) are just plain slow and have no acceleration. RS/GS = Cheap Options/All Power Options Same engine 2.0, a whole .2 more than your Celica's 1.8.

snake, I wasn't happy when phat boi went with the del sol- but please restrain yourself. There is no need for personal insults like that, it only makes you look bad- not him. He's still here isn't he? That means he likes our cars.

Hey ks, since you live in Brooksville maybe we should meet up sometime? I live about 45 minutes away and we could meet up and head to the track and race our cars there. Of course not right now, at least after I get in a few mods to the engine and suspension but it would be a good idea, and we could work out our differences on both the cars and see how performance wise how good each car is. It'd be fun, and you could stop with the negative comments in the forums.

Yes, that really is uncalled for. Who cares if he got a Honda. Honda's are not bad cars. What makes a car bad is the driver... not the car. Phat Boi is a cool guy... so there really is no need for the animosity.

i don't know that our celi's are all that slow,
i have a 96' st, intake and exhaust on 15" rims (oh yea baby)
and i've beat'n a 7th gen with the factory bodykit and what not, and then i've beat'n a ass load of civics, today i kept up with a turbo hatch civic, and hand full of other random cars with more stock HP than our cars, eclipse's i've beatn (the N/A that is), focus i've beat (except for the new svt focus i got killed by like 4 cars) and so our cars arn't all that slow it just takes a lil more to get them goin wink.gif>

"And a GS can take an ST as well. An RS might be good competition for you."

The gs and the rs both have the same engine on 95+ eclipse. You will be able to beat a non turbo eclipse with your celica if it had the 5sfe. with the 7afe you might start side by side. I race a RS for kicks a friend of my cusins. I was driving my ae92 corolla GT-S rated at 115 hp at 6600 rpm could rev to 8000 rpm and 105 ft/lb of tq at 6000 rpm regardless I was able beat him in the launch then he went in front of me about 1 car length then i started cacthing up again. This was up hill. my gt-s wiegths about the 20lb less then a 6th gen st celica. BUt with the 5sfe im sure you cad hand it to him. Besides he let me drive the thing and its not that fast. My gt-s spun more tire than that thing on 1st gear dropping the cluth. any ways if its a RS or GS and you got the GT you more likely than not have a chance if its the GS-T or GS-X then hope you got the all trac celica.
