I am having a problem with squeaky brakes when its above 15 degrees. I have heard that the Toyotas are bad for this and the culprit has something to do with factory equipment. Problem is, in addition to braking, they squeal sometimes when you drive unless you tap the brakes.

My brakes are from 2000, and they have a lot of life left. Any suggestions on how to get rid of this annoying and noisy problem?

not, that this is goign to help, but i have the same thing, i notice it more when im going slower... an its a lil squile.. then i can tap my breaks, or gentle press them, an it will stop, most of the time its for like a few days after when it rains an stuff... its manly the salt on the rotors or brakes, i think. its also because cheap material pads..

Check your pads, if theyre Toyota OEM pads they may crack if you drive hard on them. I had the same problem twice, 50%+ of the pad left and they were split right down the middle and squeaking like crazy below 10 mph.

when you do your breaks put anti-seize or an electrolytic grease and back of the pads and inside the channel the pads move up and down. You know the piece on both sides of the pad that sticks out, grease the groove they go in. This should solve everything

I had a bit of a squeek with mine and my friend took a look and there was a little paint on it that caused it. He just scrapped it off and no more squeek. Worth a look if that ends up being the problem.
