Ok the day is Saturday, Feb 22nd. 2003, and Im about to head 65 miles out of my way to pick up a 95 White Toyota Celica GT.. I get to the small little dealer and take a look at it, not bad, runs good took it for a test drive, Exterior is in mint condition, the Interior needs minor minor work. 5spd, Sunroof, Factory Stereo with indash cd. So I buy it... $4500.00 total with everything (taxes, etc)
Driving home, I get about 20 miles away from the place on the highway and I pop it in 5th. and the oil light goes on, so immediately I get off the next exit and head to the gas station check the oil (at this time theres a slight knock in the engine) So i check the oil and it looked a bit low so i added a quart or two dont remember (its called short term aggravated memory =P ) so i start it up and it seems fine, jump back on the highway and get about another 10 to 15 miles out and oil light jumps back on, ticking is stronger now and than finally the car bogs out and stalls.. so luckily i got over to the right lane and pulled onto the service area. I try starting the car again just to make sure it starts and it hasnt seized, luckily (or unluckily) it starts.. So I call the guys at the place i bought the car from and they send out a tow truck to tow it back to the place, so now tomorrow (Monday) I will call and see what the problem is. Another thing that bothers me is I could royally be screwed here because I bought the car AS IS so I dont know exactly if there gonna fix it, or if I have to, or if they're gonna take it back (which i really dont want to). And I also don't know how bad the engine problem is, dunno if it's worth having it rebuilt or a new engine plopped in. Well theres my horror story, I guess monday I will find out if it has a happy ending, or a sequel to the horror story.. =( |

I was thinking of that, but either way its still a loss, if i get my money back, I loose the celica gt. If I don't and I take the car I would have to spend $$ on getting the engine rebuilt or whatever it takes, and im not sure what it costs to get it rebuilt.

my brother bought a 93 VW passat about three years ago from a dealer and had tons of problems with it. we looked into the lemon law and it didn't do anything for him. that car was too old i think. so three years later and buying a 95, it probably wouldn't be covered under the law....unless if differs by state or something, but i would check into it anyway. sorry about the problems though. hopefully it all works out for you and you get the keep the celi |

I've been thinking about it all day... I love the car, I think im just gonna have it towed to my house, and see what I can do from there, maybe ill drop a new engine in it or rebuild it if worse comes to worse, hopefully its the oil pump or something.
Anyone know what they're charging to rebuild one?? I wish the local junkyards down here had a inventory website, maybe i can find a clip or buy a celica that has rear end damage and take it from there. |

I say take the car and do a swap. The GTs can take the torque from a 3s-gte so go for it.

I don't know about the Lemon Law, but here in Europe there is a citizens law that states that even if you buy something AS IS you are legally covered for up to 7-days if something goes wrong.
(You must file the complaint/problem officially in writing registered letter within the 7-days). Don't know whether that helps or not but I personally would check with a lawyer. Good luck on the case - I hope it works out. |
