Ok i am getting confused as to what struts are, i've searched but couldn't see what they were talking about cuz the links to the pics were dead...so this is what i found.
our cars have struts...are they all the way around?? Is this a Strut So would it be correct to say that a strut is a combination of a Shock and Springs. Isn't that the same thing as a Coilover expect that its adjustable? If i got coilovers do i still need shocks?? Can i just buy Springs and Shocks and be done with it or do i need something else to hold the shock to the springs?? sorry for the dumb question, but i need to know. Thanks |

Yes.
If you buy coilovers, you should upgrade your struts, IMO. All you will need is a set of springs/coilover kit and the struts; the springs are held in place by the strut top under their own tension. |

the celica's stock struts are actually pretty stong your struts will last a long time on coilovers comapred to hondas you see bouncing all over the road cuz the slammed it so much that they have no shock absorbtion left. i've had coilvovers for 2 years my struts are still good. the only strut that would be an upgrade that i know of os the koni yellow their adjustable in stiffness. thee is also a how to on the main site on installing coilovers if your still confused.

So the Strut is comprised of a Shock and the assemble that holds the Spring together?? So if i buy shocks, i can use the stock strut assemble and just insert the shock??
Am i on to something or just lost?? sorry |

i on the stock struts you can't but if you by kyb gr2's i think the shock cartridge can removed and replaced so you don't have to by a whole new assembly does this sound right everybody?

I've often heard the term strut and shock interchanged. in our cars case I think the strut would be the outside casing that the shock is enclosed within. also yes the koni's would be the best upgrade besides the true coilover system. the kyb gr2's on the otherhand are a oem replacement, there will be no improvement unless your existing shocks are shot. another option is the kyb agx which is available for the 5g and supposebly interchangable with our cars, but I'm not sure about this.

well not that i know of but in theory they should be the same considering toyota didn't change the suspension of the celi at all between 5th and 6th gen. I think with coilovers and springs the rates will be off but other than that they should be the same.

I recently put coilovers and struts on my car. My stock struts weren't going to be effective...so i upgraded to koni. My ride is a little bumpy but definitly not as bad as my friends with a civic. Damn its like jumping on a trampoline in his car!!! lol.
