I have a family mechanic and this guy does a lot of auction buying and selling + he has a shop. I asked him today how much would it cost to buy a 94 celica, put on a kit, and do a really good Yellow paint job on it. They guy said I knoww just what you want to make it look hot sporty siny yellow. He said he can get the car for $2,500 on an auction and do the kit and paint job for about $2,000. **** with lowered suspension this should cost me $5,000. Thats the price of a used celica with old paint on it and no kit!!!!!

that is a really good deal. I hope there isn't an important detail left out. for example.. no engine.

well its might not be the greatest deal...i mean alot of body shop will give you a paint job and a kit for 2000 bucks .....2,500 for 94 celica sounds good but then again if its for a auction it could be risky...i mean i worked with mitsubishi and all car with 100k would go to the auction cuz they couldnt get loans for them....i use to check them out...nothing but crap car would go....they looked really nice but the motor was always crap...i would see pimped out gst or gsx going through and open the hood..wow looked soo good...then i would test compression and do a full tune and nothing but 100's of dollars of repairs needed.....when you go to the auction you dont even get to drive the car b4 soo it kind of a risky....this was 99 cars too let alone a 94 would have greater chances for failure..
soo just becarefull he is in it for the money remember....even tho it sounds like a friend....j |

well car auctions arent allways bad news.. a lot of auctions are just dealers selling cars to other dealers.. its not like they are stolen cars or totalled.. just the car may not be selling on his lot so he sells it to another dealer so he can have his take at it..

True, but ive looked over the secondary car lots all the cars sold down at auction are sold because they arnt in good enough shape for the dealership to want to sell under their name.

it has nothign to do with that, Its the fact if the car is any older the 5 years, there not gettign a good enough mark-up on it, as-well as a good enough finance rate.. I know the dealership my pops deisgned, the owner said they get trade-ins, they buy the car so they dont loose the sale withc means they get the financing an extras an such. Then just sell the car to a place the sells used or has auctions, they norm sell them for what they paid maybe a few extra hundred .. but there taking up space on the lot, witch another car could use an make them twice as much. Also at this lot they would be just getting ride of great condition cars that are just 7 years old.. witch to me isnt that old at all.. I tried getting a car from this place for awhile, I just didnt feel like waiting for a car I would have wanted. This post has been edited by Digndoug: Sep 29, 2004 - 2:27 PM |

ok for the most part you would be suprised how fast car go in a dealership....so even if its ok and has under 100k they will sell it....they have to pass smog and like a 20 or so point test...if it passes then on to the alot...dealership will only send cars to the auction....if the cost of the repair is too high.....high mileage.....way old car...or just plain crap.....i use to detail them...(hahha i use to steal the stereos and anything good) cuz thet never check the auction cars........but yeah you can get a good priced car tho...but this is the place to go if you want a really good shell for a motor swap... |

I would buy a car with a dead engine and just put a new one in it...then do the kit, paint and rims..new engine...hardly any miles, new paint and a sweet ride for under $6k..compared to buying a new car at 14-35k?
