i did a little research and found this
Pro Glass Advantages of LEXANŽ Windows LEXANŽ coated sheet is a two sided hard-coated polycarbonate material that offers excellent impact resistance, optical clarity and abrasion resistance. LEXAN coated sheet is ideal for many functional parts requiring exceptional toughness and surface hardness. Safety considerations support polycarbonate over glass. Glass is a brittle material. LEXANŽ has proven to be a much better impact absorbent substance. LEXAN polycarbonate sheet offers the highest impact strength of any transparent glazing product--250 times the impact strength of glass and 30 times that of acrylic. Weight savings - Using LEXANŽ carries a substantial weight savings over the use of ordinary glass. For example, a 1/4" thick square foot of LEXANŽ weighs 1.56 lbs. in comparison to 3.2 lbs. of glass. Another consideration is that further weight savings can be obtained because a lesser thickness of LEXANŽ may be used. (An 1/8" window may be used replacing a 3/16" thick glass application). Customization - LEXANŽ windows provide you the ability to customize more readily, as they provide an ease of alteration and transformation. Ease of installation - LEXANŽ windows are molded to OEM specifications and are shipped oversize. This eases installation in bodies of different manufacturers. The Pro Glass Advantage Pro Glass has the advantage of experience. Thousands have chosen Pro Glass Windows for their race cars. After 20 years, we are proud to continue our tradition of providing the highest quality windows to the racing industry. Pro Glass uses the only best material available. General Electric LEXANŽ coated sheets offer excellent impact and abrasion resistance. Pro Glass offers the optimum advantage through its exclusive thermal forming manufacturing process. This assures you of an accurate and aerodynamic fit for your windows. Also, the optical clarity of a Pro Glass window is far superior to that of other manufacturers. Pro Glass is the #1 manufacturer of preformed LEXANŽ racing windows in the universe. We assist professionals with our quality products for drag racing, road racing, stock car racing, boat racing, and more. Pro Glass goes that extra step by spraying their windows with a protective coating that assists in the reduction of scratching and damage during installation. This water based material is easily removed upon installation of the window. Pro Glass windows are oversized. It means equidistant to the exact size of the window. This will allow a better fit to the vehicle body. Pro Glass has the experience and expertise to execute custom windows for almost any vehicle. Our 20 plus years of experience has included custom windows for a diverse range of products. Pro Glass sells only preformed windows, manufactured from mar resistant LEXANŽ. and i found this on a RX7 board CF hatch and lexan discusion The Downside: Lexan Glass scratches very easily. Eventually this is going to hinder your view out the back. and i read several places that as long as you treat it like your paint it will last a long time. so lexan all the way baby -------------------- |

does the lexan get tinted, or is it tinted itself...
also a price? we might be better off getting them to order a new glass from toyota and going like that, but yea... and i say thick enough to stay level w/ the hatch :-P unless they want to make a seal for it too(black plastic), then as thin as it can get w/o being highly weak -------------------- |

they have to know approx how many and how thick inorder to give us a price. i'll ask about tinting. and how thick does it need to be to be level w/ the hatch. and i'll ask about a seal so they can make it thinner. so how thick is the factory glass. i f i can know that i'll ask for an estimate for 10 glasses and for 15 glasses to see if there is a big price dif. since we may be able to get 15
and now that we may have those people from gt4oc we may be able to get a better price -------------------- |

sounds like a pain
i dont know how to get measurement of stock glass, have them give 2 estimates, 1 for 1" other for 1/4" then we have a max + min idea we can work on 5-10ppl(i doubt many will have the $ for this right away) Then if it sounds good, we'll just have them do whatever is needed(order new glass and either replica, or thin and make seal)... sounds easier than pryin out stock glass, or finding it elsewhere then sending to them -------------------- |
