I am getting divorced (A very good thing) I have been seperated for about 6 months. My soon to be ex-wife took the new Jetta when she left and said she wanted it. Now she doesn't want the Jetta and wants the Celica. After all the work and time and love I have put into the Celica I don't want to give it up. We had a meeting with my attorney today and the likely course is if we can't agree on the cars, they will both be sold and the debt/profit would be split. Both cars are in my name and I have a loan for the Jetta (I owe about 8K) and the Celica is paid off. She doesn't want the car payment.
I am at a loss for words. I don't know what to do... -------------------- |

I might sell it and buy it back after the mess is officially over (like to my sister) or just strip it down and sell it. I don't know. I will know more as the time comes...

Sell both cars, just sell the celica to someone you know, then buy it back from them, when everything is done with.

yeah do somthing like that with a family member she dosent know too well. sell it for cheap to them and sign the title over (assuming her name isnt on the title). that way your ex-wife cannot get her hands on it. once the divorce is finalized and done in court- buy the car back and have the title signed back over. Its shady as hell but it dosent break the law as far as i'm aware.

I would have to sell the Celica for the private party value (about $3500) if I sold it and she would get half. And we would sell the Jetta and split the debt/profit. I owe 8K on the car, If I sell it for 6K then we split the 2K debt. Either way, we break even with no cars.
I am thinking of stripping the Celica down, reversing everything I have done to it (starter, lights, gauges, new front and rear bumpers, strut bars, JDM folding mirrors, alarm, trunk popper, CD player, new floormats, speakers, GT wheels, ect...) and signing it over to her. I would get a (my) 99 Jetta III GLS with 71K miles, fully loaded, all power options, leather, heated seats, keyless entry, ect... and 3 years of car payments. I need to think about this for a few days... I have believed from the start, anything is better than being with her. PS : everything I take off from the Celica, I would sell to you guys at great prices -------------------- |

Batman722,
I hope you well in the proceedings as I am sure this is a difficult time for you. Although I can't help you at all, I do however want to add my small 2 cent comment. From my understanding of the situation, I was wondering if you knew why she wants your Celica? Maybe she wants the Celica not because she wants to drive it but she knows you would feel very bad at having to sell something she knows you love. In other words, it is her way of "payback" during this divorce proceedings. This is because I fail to see why she wants the Celica when she can have the Jetta (assuming they are of the similar value). It would seem to be that it is not a money question relating to the Celica. If this is the case, there may be a way to discuss with her (via her attorneys) to keep the Celica with you. Obviously, the above is coming from a person who does not know you or your situation or all the facts. The above can be only one of many conclusions. For all I know, she may be a Celica nut like the rest of us. You are the best judge of the situation. Good luck. TheReader |

I don't get it...? If the cars are both under your name, especially the celica and it's paid off then WHY does or do you both have to decide who get's what? It's in your name....so you own it. She shouldn't have any say right?
I don't get the legality of divorce earnings?! lol But yeah I think she just wants to hurt you and take away the one thing that makes you happy. Good luck with everything Bat! |
