Hey, I'm new to the forums and was looking into getting a 6th generation celica, it seemed to be in my price range and I'm getting bored with my Catera. Anyways I just had a few simple questions. Does it have airbags. How do insurances companies look at them, I don't have the best driving record and the cost of insurance is probably going to be the biggest decision maker in which car I get. One last thing is I was wondering what the stock acceleration was like, 0-60 and 1/4 times basically.

yes it has airbags, insurance is pretty good seeing how it is a 4 cylinder, the only thing that would make it a little more expensive is because it's considered a sports car, not a 100% sure how fast the quarter mile and 0-60 times are, but for stock they arent' that quick, they just look really nice! biggrin.gif

Keep in mind that the Celica isn't made to be a straight-line car. Where it really shines and excels is in the curves. When my suspension was stock, it handled better than my friend's Maxima which is lowered 2" and has brand new aftermarket struts. smile.gif

I love my Celica mainly when taking high speed curves. I also feel every safe in her with the air bags and everything.

If you plan on swapping engines, I wouldn't reccommend upping the power just yet. a good idea would be to work on suspension and aesthetics. Or you could put you're money on the Browns this week, double your money and buy the engine right now. If all you will ever have to spend is a G, you could get exhaust, intake and possibly a header.

What kind of engine would be swapped and what would an estimate on the total cost be?

QUOTE (Nimps @ Nov 13 2002, 05:00 PM)

Popular swaps are the 3S-GTE(2.0 Liter Turbocharged DOHC - From Celica GT-4s and MR2s) and the DOHC 20 valve 4A-GE, which is naturally aspirated, and DOHC 4A-GZE, which is supercharged. The 3S-GTE will provide you with the most power and is probably the easier swap if you have a GT. If you've got an ST, it'll definitely be easier to swap in a 4A, because it's an A-series engine so you won't have to change the motor mounts. I don't know a whole lot about the engine swaps, but lots of people on here do and they can help you a lot better than I can. smile.gif

Can anyone give me an estimate on how much it cost, and to those of you who have performed the swap, I was wondering if you could explain what all needs to be changed and modified.

engine swap probably isnt a good idea if you are worried about insurance... id say just enjoy it at stock, maybe some suspension and basic bolt ons would be good for starting out.... wait till the insurance company becomes a little more leanient with ur record, then go for a bigger power boost....
