yeah, but i have an SAFC to adjust the fuel, and i'm setting the timing back 5 degrees, and i made a check valve for the MAP sensor, so that takes care of all the ECU issues. -------------------- 1994 Lexus ES300

Ok, I'm not very educated when it comes to turbos and associated mods.
By changing the timing you are going to make the incomming air help push out the exhaust. I think. BUT the manifold pressure thing.... How you gonna fool the computer there? Also, is there a parts total price yet? Where'd you get your afc by the way? |

i got my afc from ebay. right about the timing, that's why i had to make a check valve for the MAP sensor that bypasses the excess pressure. very easy, took like 30 bucks to make. the check valve is like a BOV or wastegate for the MAP sensor setup. you could also get a 2 bar MAP sensor from an MR2 turbo and use that instead, but that will cost more $$. i'm eventually going to get a J&S safeguard which has a great check valve, so my setup is just temporary, but it'll do the job. i'm not sure on a total price yet, i got a really good deal on most of my stuff... probably about 3500 so far, and i still need to get the downpipe and WG pipe made. BUT! i went probably the most expensive route you could go. i bought everything new, and got a lot of toys that you don't need. incidentally, if you have a 96+ celica and are going turbo, be careful of your intercooler selection, as we have smaller air opening than the 94-95 ones. not a big deal for the intercooler, that will get enough air, but it will block air to the radiator. not good! i'm not sure what i'm going to do about this yet, probably i'll wait and get a gt4 front end, which will delay the install a little, but, eh, i'm a patient guy. kind of a side track but saw that you got the super afc 2. what does it have that the old one doesnt? tried looking at the site but its all in japanese and i sure cant read it. haha. but really any reason you went with that one instead of the older one?

well, i think getting the hood and using a top mount would cost way more than a front mount. i'm gonna temporarily go with my stock look right now, until I can get the $$ for the gt4 front end. then i shouldn't have any problems, that has so much more room. as to the triple pod, lo-tek is not responding to my emails. i've heard it takes them incredibly long to get anything done. i'll see if i can get in touch with them again, but i'm starting to feel like it's just not worth the trouble. -------------------- 1994 Lexus ES300

did u ever figure out what fan to use since i heard u have to buy an aftermarket one so the turbo would fit ?

i'm just going to leave my fan out for now. i don't really idle in traffic during the summer, it doesn't get rid of your AC, just makes it work a little less. no biggie. yeah, but zipstrips knows the part numbers for the fans. -------------------- 1994 Lexus ES300

nah, it's a problem of clearance for the turbo and manifold. with the setup i'm running, i'll have to remove the fan, and use zip ties to pull the radiator farther forward... not a big deal, tho. -------------------- 1994 Lexus ES300

hhehe, i'm quoting myself. but remember, i went pretty much as expensive as you can get, a lot of this stuff is optional. for example, i got an external wastgate, which was like 250, but you can get a turbo that has an internal one and it will be cheaper, or you could get a manual boost controller instead of an electronic one. -------------------- 1994 Lexus ES300

If you wanted to go cheap. What would you say the main parts for boost are?
1. turbo(built in bov) 2. manifold 3. down pipe 4. optional intercooler 5. assorted lines 6. assorted pipe Did I miss anything? |

yea u missed the fuel part of a turbo set up. You would need bigger injectors and an safc. Or a fmu and injectors, prolly a better fuel pump, fuel cut defenser?

fmu is cheaper, yeah you need more injectors. you also need the oil lines and fittings. and a manual boost controller, i imagine. -------------------- 1994 Lexus ES300

correct me if i am wrong but i dont think a check valve is needed when you are running an SAFC(super air flow converter) it will just modify the signal from the map anyway no matter what the readings are. and BTW, you cant adjust the timing, the distributor on the obd2 celica st's(96-98) are locked. to unlock it you will have to buy a new distributor mount and elongate the hole that the locking bolt goes in(Just a heads up, im planning on doing this this weekend) -------------------- 1994 Celica GT4 WRC Edition

In Italy the distributor on the ST is variable on stock on both 94-96 and 96-98 models....
