ok, and while im having a blonde moment today (as many of you read), i did remember to ask this. what is a good launching rpm for normal everyday driving. it started snowing today, and i dont want to be spinning my tires this winter, so what is a good rpm? also, whats the right rpm for going 60 mph in 5th gear? mines at 3k...which seems high, but my gas miles is still pretty good. just wondering of thats correct, and what i can do about it if its not?

You don't want to lauch in the snow at all. Just give it a little gas and let the clutch out. It takes a day to get used to it but you will get used to it. The highway rpm sounds right.

Might also wanna think about moving off from 2nd gear instead of 1st gear.

a little heads up if your tires are spinning.. up shift and or let go off the throttle a bit... that will give you grip.. even dry, wet , and snow ..

Driving in snow?

2nd gear, and gentle with the throttle.

Full bore launch on a drag strip?
5 grand, sidestep the clutch and WOT.

I need a new clutch, by the way. frown.gif

yeah, im kinda getting the hang of it. everyone says im doing really good for teaching myself how to drive a stick. it doesnt help that i have low profile street tires on my car....but cant afford new ones right now, so theyre staying on for the winter. the roads i drive get plowed right away though, so its not too bad, but my car already "bottoms out" on the snow on my driveway cuz its like 5 inches deep. i can see where my under body has been dragging on it. id be scared to see it with a kit, although i wouldnt have to plow the driveway then.... rolleyes.gif

Going 60mph in 5th should put you at around 3k RPM. It surprised me at first also because I used to drive an auto with over drive and going 80 only put me at 3k RPM, then everytime I turn off the overdrive the RPMs jump up to 4kRPM going 80.
