i get smoke everytime i start the car regardless of the temperature. but when i start driving it, the smoke clears.

i think i've got big problems....i was told that it won't pass smog...

how much does it usually cost to replace the head gasket? what's a fair price on a rebuild kit? thanks in advance.

Blue is Oil, Usually from bad piston rings, bad piston, or cracked block (Most Expensive to Fix)

White - Gray is usually anti-freeze, usually from a bad headgasket, and sometimes with a cracked block. (Less Expensive to fix)

Black is fuel, if you spew black, your running too rich, Not gunna mess your engine up. (Little Expense to tune out)

Sometimes when its cold out, it is just condensation

Blue is kinda a whitish blue color, but definately should be able to tell.

If you smoke white smoke all the time, no matter what, you have an antifreeze leak, you can also tell because your antifreeze has most likely mixed with your oil, and turned it into a sludgy gray color.

Those are all teh colors you engine should put out, unless someone put some green dye in there somewhere.

Headgaskets are time consuming and expensive, its about a 6+ Hour Job (Mitchell Time Book) That means it will most likely be around $500-600 Labor +-100, +200 +-50 for parts.

Have you actually tested your smog at a MVA or DMV Test site, just because it smokes in the morning doesnt mean it wont pass smog tests.

dude head down to your local NAPA and head to the oil and fuel additives, and find the stuff that guarantees you will pass a SMOG test. Probably can't do much harm, and if you are financially strapped it might buy some time.

white in the mornings is nearly always condensation in the exhaust, nothing to worry about at all unless you have 'cream' around your oil cap as well.

if you have a big jap exhaust they are ven more prone to the build up of water condensation in the winter, hence the white smoke
