im pissed. I cant get into my celica. I have a 94 ST coupe. I have manual door and windows so i cant get in without opening the door without the key. I cant get in its frozen. I bought de-icer (WD-40). and the lock is turning 1-2 way. When i look inside at the door latch its opening and locking but opening 1/2 way. I tried the same with the trunk. Ive gotten into the trunk but i cant get into the passenger compartment. How do i get into the car?? is it possible to get into the car through the trunk, how do i pull the seats down from the trunk??

get a freaking hair dryer. But over exagerate the heating, for last winter, i got the key in, it would turn easily like during the summer, and i heard something snap inside. During the summer, it works just find, but during the winter, as soon as it gets cold, i can't even get the key in anymore, i have to open from passenger side.

thats what I did one time, poured some warm water on the door and lock. worked like a charm

get a real keyhole de-icer, comes in a small bottle made for this type of thing.

there's a battery powered key-chain add on for this
it pops out a thin metal that goes in the keyhole, and once the metal is poped out of the unit(square) it starts to heat...things get real hot to...i wanted to attempt soldering w/ it... sorry, but i dont know where one may be purchased. -------------------- |

Treat yourself to a nice remote start system, then leave the heat on when you get out so you can start it up and let it get nice and toasty. Your doors will never get stuck again.... the trunk, maybe.

It was designed to perform at a higher temperature. Unless it's over 200 degrees outside I think you should always let it warm up before driving it, or at least keep out of the higher RPM. -------------------- Project ST204.5 99.88946% complete... |

I had the same problem. It had snowed alot but then the next day the temp rose to 50 something degrees. By that night the temp dropped again and all the snow that had melted turned to ice and froze so I couldn't even open my doors, hood, or trunk even tho they were unlocked. I had to wait a couple of days to get into my car.

hey... as a fellow illinois person im having the SAME problems. For two days every lock on my car was frozen and i couldnt drive mycar. Just lastnight i was able to get my passanger side door unlocked. Other then that everything is still stuck. Even lock deicer didnt help at all. I hate this cold.

I got it, I took a hairdryer as i was told to and heated up the hole. I got the key in and the lock only opened 1/2 way. After 3-4 minutes of heating the hole i got the idea of heating the area where the latch was from the outside. I stuck the key in and giggled it open and closed for a while and finally it popped. When it gets a little warmer im gonna check if something is wrong with the springs or the lock assymbly. Thanks for all your imput.

Yup we had freezing rain up here in the southeast of the big WI and I couldnt get into my car saturday. Both drivers side and passenger side doors were frozen shut and the power locks wouldnt function. I proceeded to open my hatch up and that did work, crawled my butt in there and pryed my drivers side and passernger side doors while holding the lock button unlocked hehe. Ahh yea I love 0 Degrees Farenheit

Did you know it is possible to lock your engine up if you don't let it warm up right? What happens is the pistons heat up unevenly and can sieze. Its more commen in 2 strokes but it can happen in a 4 stroke. |
