my cruise hasn't worked since I had the car. The cruise just blinks on the dash. I read somewhere that it is a sensor that is bad and it costs way too much to replace.

I just did a search for "cruise" and came up with this thread

My cruise button is kind of finicky... it seems the housing is kind of loose somehow so the button doesn't "click" when I press it. However, if I squeeze the housing around the button (front to back) when I press it, it works just fine.

*edit*
The thing with being able to raise and lower the windows when the car is off and the keys are out is actually a feature on some Toyotas. I don't remember how long it lasts after you turn off the car, but once you open the door it should quit doing that.

this is actually a feature on the celica... you have like 30 seconds after you turn the car off to roll the windows up or down... and this feature stops once any of the doors are opened. rolleyes.gif

When I first got my car ( I bought it used ) the same thing happened with my CC. Apparently, the rectangular block that snaps into the back of the CC knob wasn't staying in and I had to do what you did - pushing it in. So I thought, why not super glue it in? So I did, and haven't had a problem with it working ever since.

my car had this problem and after hours of wondering why the hell it wasnt working i found a little problem.

if you look near the radiator and battery ( in between) you will see a wiring harness that leads to across the radiator fan..... well you see the thing with mine was that the fan tore up the harness and was causing my cruise not to work

so i repaired the wires and resealed the harness and BAM! cruise control again....stupid fans

Mine works but recently it has been shutting off while driving. Its kinda random but it will do it more often if i use the cruise control switch to accelerate with. It will just shut off and then the cruise light starts flashing. I have a extra cruise control "ECU" thats located under the passender side dash. I will swap that out and see if that fixes it. I have no clue what that "cc ecu" costs but it probably isnt cheap.

do you have a pic? I was thinking the wires for the cruise control ran behind the engine and around the side not in front of the radiator... but i've had the same problem.. at first the cruise control would work but.. it would accelerate hard.. then let off... but now it doesn't even cut on...

Ditto, mine got torn up when I moved the cc actuator so check that.

you know my cc worked perfectly when i bought the car and for a pretty long time, then one day it just did not work, the cluster light lit up green sept it did not hold the speed just let off the gas like it was not even on, but about 6 months later (never cared to fix it, dont use it enough) it just started working again, and has ever since, never did figure out the problem but it works fine.

My cruise control works fine... biggrin.gif

anyway, the most common thing to go wrong is the cruise control speed sensor..
other than that, check the vacuum hoses that attach to the cruise control actuator and make sure they're not clogged with dirt or anything.
