on my car, underneath the bonnet is covered with insulation, and there is a plastic sheild that is in between the vent and the insulation but set forward slightly, so what happens is, if any water drips on the insulation and doesnt get absorbed or evaporated straight away, it just runs off onto the plastic sheild, which channels all the water to the front of the hood and it runs out down near the radiator.
not to mention, it keeps the engine clean from dust and dirt and anything else that could fall through an open vent. it still vents heat with the insulation in place, but most of it is vented out of the rear vents. |

how do you people keep your engine bays clean if you are scared of getting your engine wet?
i hit mine up with a pressure washer and it doesnt do any harm. water doesnt hurt the outside of and engine |

Why don't you make a "catchcan" sort of thing underneath the scoop with a little hose running downwards to the ground. That way your valvecover won't get corroded.
