DONT START YELLING!!! I DID USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION BUT DIDN'T FIND ANY GOOD INFO.

Hello, I am a newbi on this forum and I already have some questoins.
I kinda want to do a swap 4A-GZE or 4A-GE. And I have questions about the swap's.

1) Which engine would you recomend and which one is easyer to swap?
2) What do I need, to do a complete swap? if I use stock tranny.
3) Is it possible to do the wiring on my own? (does the wiring job consists of only lenghtheing the wires?)
4) Is there anything else that I should know.

Thats pretty much it. I did find a lot of people talking about these swaps but none of the threads had a list of parts needed to do the swap.
Thank you very much for any info.

the 4agze swap has never been done before... my advise... if you go 4agze use the aw11 one... has less power then the ae92 or ae101 but imo it would be easier...

if you do the 4age 20v swap talk to coomer..

Uh then I will probably go with 4age cuz I dont want to get into any big problems.
So can any one tell me what will I need to do this swap? (parts)

Doesn't matter. All basically the same (4A series)... The differences is in the wiring and DLI...

The engine, all sensors, un-cut wiring harness, distributor, coil/ignitor, ECU, tune up stuff...

Ask yourself this question. If you are completely inept with wires... well... As for "just lengthening"... no. You need to do quite a bit more than simply lengthening. The dash harness and body harnesses require modification.

do yourself a huge favor and pay for the harness to be done by a pro. you don't want the stress of doing it yourself.

yeah, i don't think qatar is the man to see about 4a harnesses. but there have been previous posts about other companies that make custom harnesses.

best place to ask people isn't here, if your really serious do searches and ask at club4ag.com. Most of those guys are gona have old corrola's and old mr2's but they can answer questions about all the different HP and technology differences for the 4a series.

Perhaps I can chime in on the topic. First off it will not be easier with a Us model or Japanese model Mr2. The best way to perform the 4agze swap is to get an ENTIRE front clip of the 4agze preferrably 101 gze as it is equipped with Lsd from the factory and the transmission shifter linkage is that of a front wheel drive vehicle hence no shifter linkage modification. To make a long story short on wiring, you will be rewiring the 1st plug on the ecu which travels up to the dash. This plug is THE ONLY plug that you will cut the loom to becuase it travels to the dash. This is the plug in which you will be modifying. Since this is a different vehicle than a Celica to begin with you will have to attatch the Gze fuse box and accessories that are apart of the wire loom to your engine bay, but that is fairly straight forward. Hope this helps

soo lemme get this straight.. the 101 is a bit less powerful but has the lsd.. and the 11 is more powerful and doesnt have the lsd?

the ae101 4agze has the most power, about the lsd, i didnt think all the ae101's had it, but some did, i have a ae101 gze and it certainly doesnt have lsd from what i can tell

Who said anything about using a mr2?

You make this swap sound far to easy, I really don't think its as easy as that. If it was that easy everyone on here would be doing it, instead of a 3sgte.

Who said using an Mr2? Did you notice the 2nd post on this topic when the gentleman said using the Aw11 would be easier. I guess I assumed he was talking about the s/c Mr2 US model. Either way, US model Mr2 or Jdm Mr2 will not be the easier way. Yes this swap is that easy when you consider the fact that everything bolts in but you must rewire. People are not doing this left and right because no one has any documentation on it while attaining a front clip. Put it this way, if Aw11 owners are putting these in their Mr2's left and right and the engine sits in the back so the harness is not exactly desirable, why would it be that much more difficult in a Celica which is front wheel drive. Not to mention the "A" series models would also have the choice of going 7agze which is a project we have finished on my brothers Mr2. Again, this is a fairly new forum which kind of reminds me of the Mr2 boards when we first started. Give it a few years and I can bet that there will be many 3rd gen 3sgte Celica swap owners and 4agze Celica swap owners.

I think when people think of the wire loom they get real nervice. Here is the funny thing that know one really mentions on this forum. Any engine swap you do when you change efi's there is only about 10 wires that must be interfaced and the car will run. Of course there will be others, but if you wire in the Basic Efi requirements your car will start. Perhaps I should take a picture of my Ae92 gze swap into my Aw11. More specifically the ONE plug that has been interfaced, in which I have had my swap for about 6 years now. I also think it would be alot more clear if one could see the engine removed from a clip with loom in hand. Remember, the loom has 3 plugs that go into the ecu. 2 of the plugs are directly fromt the engine and will not be touced. The 3rd one goes up to the dash in which you will cut and interface with your existing Efi. Now obviously you might have a few other things you might need to add like alternator wire as I believe they are added in differently then the US models or you might have to add in your speakers or door signal, inside light, ect..... Keep in mind that this will not stop your car from running.

Again, people are not doing this swap due to lack of knowledge and or others who have performed the swap successfully. There are options available, but that does no good if therea are not people willing to give it a shot. Most important thing in my opinion for an engine swap is, will the engine you are using bolt into place with no fabrication. If the answer is yes then rewiring to your existing efi should be your only concern.

As for the Lsd option on the Ae101, I have yet to see an Ae101 gze that did not have Lsd from the factory, and I have sold dozens over the years. Perhaps you did not get a true Ae101, or you are not for sure as how to tell if you have a factory Toyota Lsd.

Sorry, I didn't know the aw11 was an mr2 I was assuming it was a corolla.

Yes the engine swaping is easy, but the wiring is the difficult part.

I'm gonna do it. My engine blew and I'm going to order a 4agze next week I was contemplating doing the 3sgte but the motor mounts are a big concern, I would rather have something that bolts right in. I'm really excited about it and will document it along the way. smile.gif

I have a 94 ST and im thinking about doing the 4agze swap this summer I have a question though does the transmission for the 4agze mount in easily or are you just gonna bolt it to your stock transmission which I dont think will handle the sc boost very well.

Stock trans should handle just fine as long as you do not abuse it everytime you shift. Remember, Ray halls 20valve 7agte ran and to my knowledge is still running the N/a Mr2 trans rated at 112hp! Just depends on how aggressive you get on it. As for the tranny bolting on with all motor mounts included in the swap is a grey area. My experience with Toyota says yes, but the question is what combo will need to be used. Example is do you need to use the 4agze trans mount or the 7afe trans mount. Will you need to use the 4agze trans mount bracket or the 7afe bracket and with the bracket you choose, will you use the ze trans mount with it or the 7a trans mount? This is the area in which one will have to give feedback during a swap so that we can all get a clear understanding of the right combonation in case it does not line up when installed. Being that it is an A series engine I believe there will be no major issues as I have yet to see major issues while transplanting any A or S series configuration with its chassis counterpart. For example when doing a 4agze swap on an 85-86 mr2, the 4agze trans will not clear the suspension unless you use the 85-86 trans mount bracket. On the 87-89 it works just fine. What we have found with the A series and S series is it is really close if not right on and to get it right on, the right combonation may need to be utilized. Kind of like you need to use the Gt motor mounts in an St to get the 3sgte and drive train to work. Hope that make since.
