Hey everyone,
Yesterday when I was comin home from school everything was going fine. I stopped for a stoplight and when I was bout to go, I noticed the engine had died. Well, I thought that maybe i had let the clutch out and killled it, but that wasnt the case. I tried cranking several times and I gave it gas cause I didnt know anything else to try. It was very embarrasing. So, I put it in neutral and luckily I was able to slowly roll out of the way. I called my dad and he came and looked at it and couldn't figure out what was wrong. So he calls his friend who is a mechanic and the mechanic came and towed it away. Well, today he called my dad and said that the distributor was in real bad shape so he replaced that... and the car still doesnt work. Arrg .. He said it might be some sort of coil ignitor thing which costs a lot of money evidently. So as of now I am celica-less until I get it back. I have a feeling that I am going to be spending 400-500 dollars on fixing this thing cause he said the distributor was around 200, and the other part is even more than that... This sucks huh? That sets me back on my engine funds quite a bit... On top of it all I was late for work yesterday ... I just wanted to share my story, -Rob -------------------- |

nah Im not lookin for a new one but thanks for the offer... and the timing belt was replaced 10k miles ago.. .and he checked it as well and it was fine.
hes going to check it out in depth more this weekend because he didnt have much time today.... hopefully it wont cost any more than this... I mean, i paid 3600 for my car and im spending like nearly a fourth of that on repairing something... I love my celica but I hate its problems. I'll let you know when I get it back -Rob P.S.- I did succeed in installing my stereo a few days ago. It is a Pioneer headunit and it works great. This site helped me alot because I was not awaare that I could use the metra adapter to get the 8 speakers working. I love this site -------------------- |

Need more info...when you said the engine died, did it just stall ? does the battery still have juice or is it dead ? does it want to turn over but doesn't ?

it wouldnt crank up... I was listening to the radio while i was waitin for someone to rescue me lol so idk if it had to do with the battery . When I try cranking it up it tries to turn over but it wont so Idk what was wrong.
The mechanic told me that the distributor definitely needed replacing. He said the old one was torn up pretty bad and he said it was being held together with some sort of zip ties. Whoever had the car before me really messed some stuff up lol. -------------------- |

Mine would crank sometimes but not start. Try a new/rebuilt starter. About a $200 job total. I'm not sure what made yours die, but the starter was bad on my 94 ST. It had lots of dead spots.

The Ignition coil for a 94 GT is 40$ at advanced auto parts.
www.partsamerica.com It does sound like it could possibly be your problem. Good luck -------------------- |

Just letting everyone know that my car is in working order again! Im happy..
Wow, he showed me the old distributor. Someone who had the car before me had tried to use some sort of epoxy / jb weld to hold the thing together.. Now thats just ghetto if you ask me. Anyway, it only set me back 500 dollars, which is less than I had expected. So after I pay it off, its time to start doing some mods... Hope to learn a lot more about 6th gens in the future... Later, Rob -------------------- |

if I would have fixed my car myself it would have cost 500 anyway... he didnt even charge for the labor.
the distributor was the most expensive and the ignitor was about 100 or so.. yeah, davezxtc i was talkin about that part.. when I picked it up he showed it to me .. its located on the top of the firewall like you said.
