Anyone out there recommend a cd changer with MP3
playback capabilities. Don't want to change my head unit
as it still kicks. Whats involved with transferring MP3 to
CD and whats the audio storage times that can be achieved?
I've a 10 disc changer but want more audio storage.....

I just got the Kenwood KDC-MP822 and it not only looks great it can play mp3 cd's. I don't think there is a 10 disc changer that plays mp3's. But I may be wrong. Best bet is to change the face to one that plays mp3's and keep the disc changer for all the cd's you already own.

either a decent mp3 player with storage or a head unit that plays mp3 cds is gonna cost you over $200.

HD based mp3 players store over 1-2 months woth of continous play music. CD based mp3 play of course 11-12 hours worth of music per cd.

Really if you dont know much about mp3s or players or the technology behind them go to www.mp3.com or www.cnet.com. and www.vcd-help.com for info about burning

yea my head unit is the best ever kind of a all in one.

7 inch motorized screen. moves left and right. dvd, cd, mp3, mpeg, etc. if you copy mp3 songs onto a cd-r or cd-r/w you can store approximately 200-240 songs. I have 2 cd's. That's it. I have a few more that I copy music videos on to and drive around watching them. But that's it.

Yea, as far as I'm aware regardless of the cd changer you have your head-unit still has to be able to play MP3s before you can get a changer that does.

To be honest, if your using mp3 CDs you really don't need a changer...

so there isn't a changer that can decode Mp3 and send the audio
in analog form to an aux input on my head unit?

Just get an iPod. They're the fricken shiz! 1000-10000 songs stored and playedback depending on which you get. Works with the cd player tape adapter things, or an fm transmitter. I love my pod...=]

I don't think that there is. I've never seen one, and I sometimes hang out on car audio forums. I'd imagine that there might be a cd changer with mp3 playback, but I bet it wouldn't interface perfectly with your cd player unless your cd player is the same brand and already supports mp3 playback. That said, however, you may be able to find a cd changer with mp3 playback capabilities and an fm modulator.

Coomer I just checked out a Sony CDX555MXRF CD changer,
it has 10cd changer with MP3 Playback but the reviews
that I've read for it really suck. The name Sony doesn't always mean top quality or reliable equipment, trust me
I used to work in a Sony Service centre,If they could iron
out the problems with the unit I'd go for it. Don't want to
get rid of my Kenwood double din head unit its just too good.
Heres a link to the Sony unit if you're interested..
Link up to the head unit is via an RF modulator, similar to my existing cd changer set up (sound quality on RF is quite decent by the way)...

Ok there's been a development, I've thrown out the idea of
a cd changer playing MP3's and taken on board the suggestion
of an Ipod, but I've now seen a system called Mstation (also
known under the name of Neo/ traxaudio etc). Its a hard disk unit which plugs into a harness at the back of the car, holds
up to 20gb of MP3 (6000 songs or thereabout). You transfer
the Mp3's by hookin it up to your EIDE connector on your PC.
A display unit sits on your dash detailing artist/track name etc.
looks too good to be true, anyone got this system or seen it
used, whats the sound quality like.....feedback pleeeeease! biggrin.gif
