I'm from Malaysia and currently looking for the 6GC. I've been reading on the net about all the 2.0L version with turbo (bhp 220). But lately I found a couple of cars on the market WITHOUT turbo?

I haven't seen the car personally, only some pictures of it. They took a picture of the Engine block but I couldn't see any turbo pipes running on top of it. My understanding of turbo engines are limited so please excuse me if I got the technicalities wrong.

Most turbo engines I've seen has the turbo pipe running ON TOP of the engine block from the intercooler in the front of the car to all the way to the back (firewall) and down behind the engine block where the actual turbine is. Hence I was looking for the pipe in the picture and couldn't find it?

Can someone tell me if there is really a 2.0L verison in the market? And what are the specs of it? bhp, torque, gearbox (4/5 speed), etc.

Only the GT-FOUR version came with a turbo as standard. There was a 2.0 version in n/a form. Several guises such as SSI, SSII and SSII as well as plain ol' Celica versions. These came with 3S-FE and 3S-GE motors - at least on the NZ market. Later cars came with a 2.2 motor too. IIRC, this was called the Beams and went on to be used in the new Toyota Altezza (albeit in RWD form).
AFAIK, 2.0 models were approx 160 - 180bhp with the 2.2 around 200bhp.
I'm sure that there were other varients, especially in the US market.

post the pictures here and we can tell you what it is

for reference you may want to shy away from the 3sfe variant as it only has 140 hp or so. the 2nd generation 3sge (~180 hp) or 3rd gen (~200 hp) would be the other engines available as a 2.0 and the ones you should look for in a non-turbo. of course the turbo model with the 3sgte engine would be the most ideal

check out the information page for specifics:

Don't confuse the 2.2 beams, with the 5sfe which is 2.2.

No Toyota BEAMS 3S-GE motors were 2.2 liters. Both of the, including the one in the sixth generation Celica, are 2.0 liter motors.

welcome to the boards!! What part of Malaysia are you from? Im originally from KL. A lot of my family still lives there.

Just like its said above, the celi does come in a few forms with the 3s-ge engine which is a 2.0L N/A engine. If the engine cover is all shiny black or red and says 'BEAMS' on it... buy it without hesitation!!

I'm living in KL now but my hometown's up north in Ipoh.

I don't think there are any GT4 AWD versions in Malaysia. Mostly are FWD 2.0 NA versions. And even that is rare.

thats cool, my cousin lives in Ipoh...

Thats the regular 3sge. Like ghost said, its still pretty good, and MUCH better looking than those protons you guys got over there.

A beams will be very hard to find, especially in Maylasia where i heard the import tax on foreign cars are enormously high. But... i did remember seeing a skyline gtr in a used parking lot when i was there in december.

yes it is. the 6GC itself is very rare, even less for the GT4, can literally forget about the BEAMS.

btw, does "BEAMS" stand for anything?

as you can tell, i'm still shopping for one. found a couple of units white and red ones but they were sold!!! one of them had leather seats inside!!!

177 bhp? cool. what can i do to upgrade the 3SGE?

Any recommendation for upgrading the 3SGE to boost the 177bhp?
