about a week ago I put about 5oz of acetone into my Jetta's gas tank. this thread The tank was about 80-85% full at the time. I drove normaly like I always do. Here are the results...
99.5 Jetta GLS 5spd 70K miles I usually get about 24-27mpg with acetone added - I got 30.43mpg I usually get about 310-330 miles to a full tank of gas with acetone added - I got 372 miles <-- record high in the Jetta It definatly increased my mileage. As for performance, it does feel better (quicker, smoother) but it is hard for me to tell because I switch from the Jetta to the Celica, and the Jetta is faster than the Celica anyway. But, in my opinion, the Jetta was more responsive than usuall. the next step is using it in the Celica. I am filling up tonight and I am going to put in about 6oz (4-5oz per 10 gallons). I usually fill up every 10 days (430-440 miles) in the Celica. I am wicked excited to see the results with the Celica. bottom line, this stuff works. If you are sceptical, google "acetone car" or something and read what others say and their results. Research it first. I did. I got a 32oz cont of acetone at my local Ace Hardware store for $5.99. BTW, this stuff is used for stripping paint, do not spill it on your car. Use a long funnel to pour in. -------------------- |

I'm glad you asked that Art, results are still pending for the Celica but with the Jetta...
cheaper with acetone $6 for 32oz each full tank gets 6oz = $1.13 worth of acetone (about $.09 per gal) 1 gallon of gas = $2.39 *89 grade (about 24-27 miles for me) full tank (12.5) 2.39 X 12.5 = $29.88 $29.88 + $1.13 = $31.01 (full with acetone 372 miles) to go 40 more miles with the Jetta I would need to put in about 1.6 gallons of gas or $3.82 to get the same as $1.13 of acetone. $29.88 + $3.82 = $33.70 (full with gas + 1.6 gal of gas to get 372 miles) not crazy savings but still savings. By the summer I will be paying $2.50+ per gallon of gas and I don't see acetone going up in price. I could probably get it cheaper at Home Depot too. -------------------- |

You'll probably end up with heavy repair bill at the end... |

eclipse_04a, buy an ST
Manny, Doug, DMC, I do agree about the possible bad long term effects. This isn't something I will be doing every time i fill up. Just something here are there for a boost in mileage. I have read a bunch about this stuff and what it does to the gasoline and combustion in your engine. I think that used in moderation it won't be bad. -------------------- |

It hurts in the pocket at first, but is way better to use high grade fuel, believe me, I travel 150 miles daily and when I fill the fuel tank with premium I get around 450 miles with 1/4 of tank left. If I use medium grade I have 1/8 of tank left, and if I use regular, the gas light turns on.

I agree with you but you have to check in your owners manual if your engine can actually take advantage of premium. I know it is recommended on the 5sfe but its not the case of every engine |

The other thing about using acetone in your gas is that when you burn acetone it creates toxic fumes (it is a paint thinner) so its technically illegal to do but granted it is a good idea

http://www.lubedev.com/smartgas/additive.htm Found this a few weeks ago on newstoday.com, havent tried acetone yet, but the research is convincing. |

Interesting, but after seeing what acetone did when it was spilled on my old Logitech keyboard, I'm not so sure it's something that I would want to put into my car.
