ok what would you do get the gen 1 3sgte motor with 205 hp and fix it up or the gen 2(jdm) 225 hp start at that point and start build or a 3rd gen with 255hp. the price difference is big 2500 for a gen 1 clip 3250 for gen 2 or 4600 for the gen 3? confused.gif

dude 4600 for a ST205 clip damn

go to www.jarcoinc.com

2500 for the same thing. seriously don't spend 4600 trust me...definitely not worth it.
and some people will tell you to just get the ST185 because the parts are supposedly easier to get than the ones for the st205 but what i don't get is why? I mean they are the same engine. Ionno. It's up to you. But don't spend 4600 for a 3rd gen clip.

the 3rd gen 3s IS NOT the same. and you cant buy parts for it in the us, you have to go through toyo japan. thats why everyone says 2nd gen.

the 2nd gen had t-vis while the 3rd gen didnt. also the intake and exhaust ports in the 3rd gen where wider. and yes parts will work one the 3rd gen from the second gen.

I have a 3rd gen R/c and I use 5th gen alltrac parts all the time on it, granted some of the stuff you can't use but most of it is interchangeable.

to answer the original question it depends on what you want to do with the motor.

If you looking for alot of power but dont want to do alot of after market stuff then get the 3rd gen and just swap it in.

if you looking for alot alot of power then get the 2nd gen and work on increasing boost - that T-vis is AWESOME

If you looking to break landspeed records then get the 3rd gen and max that Bish to hell with aftermarket stuff biggrin.gif

If I have the money i would definitely go for the 3rd gen. We're talking about 30 hp difference from the 2nd. but hey, how much does 30 hp cost? the cheapest would be NOS but I wouldn't recommend it.
I think 4 grand is a good deal already, I have a friend who just spent thesame for JDM Integra Type R engine. Money wise though would be to get the 2nd gen cause it has a built it intercooler already. Saves you money as well as time, but of course we all know we want more psi we have to get a bigger intercooler.
But that is up to u to work on a future.
