Hey guys. I talked to a guy this weekend at the World of Wheels show about my Celica. He said that his shop has done a few of the swaps so he knew his stuff when he was tlaking to me...he said he'd do it for 3500 labor if I used stock wiring or 1500 labor if i used a standalone fuel management system instead. Engine will come about 1500 shipped so all in all it's going to be around a 5000 swap. Is that a good price?

To me, it sounds good. But, I'm not an expert on the pricing. Maybe you could talk him down a bit or something though?

that's awfully high, especially if it's into a GT... um are you also adding an auto to manual conversion? if so, that's about right, i think. you'll have to go stick with a 3sgte, i do believe. -------------------- 1994 Lexus ES300

wait a sec, he was gonna charge $2000 more if you use the stock harness? what a rip off, have him do the swap for $1500(pretty good price) and send the wiring to a shop to have it done for about $500 or i think Qatar does it for around the same price.

Just out of curiosity, how much is a standalone fuel management system?

Depends on what kind fo system you look into. Can be anywhere from 700 bucks to 1800. I've seen higher but then you're geting into accessories that come with them or whatever. Yeah, stock wiring is hard they said, but they know how to do it. I also suppose they are juding off of prices on that other guy's swap. He tried to do it himself and messed up so they probably had to rip everything out which costs time and put it all back starting from scratch. And yes I'm going witht he manual conversion at the same time I think.

Also, I want to get some good relations going with these guys. They know what they're talking about and I hope for my next project they will hook me up and give me a better deal.

badica: I posted on this before, about the legalities as well as a bunch of other stuff.
5SFE - 3SGTE Comparison There's the link to that thread, but for a short answer yes it is illegal if your car didn't originally have that type of engine. This post has been edited by snadman: Apr 8, 2003 - 2:37 PM -------------------- 95 Toyota Celica GT

it's only illegal if you have smog or strict emissions in your state. there is the side issue about not telling your insurance company about it, that's a little illegal. if you tell them, it's fine, but your rates go up. -------------------- 1994 Lexus ES300

Does pac motor sports have a website? And also, does that include the auto to manual conversion? |

3500 is a lot of money for an engine that uses stock mounts and the ECU comes with the engine - I would spend NO MORE THAN 1500 and thats pushing it man - I would look around more

I've been doing some canvassing on the labor. So far the most expensive I've ran into is Toysport. they were charging me from $800-1500 in labor.
Thats with every single option that I wanted and probably some customization. With the engine and everything they gave me a $4000 w/ labor already. But damn 3500 for the labor. Where does he work? On the dealer it self? You should have told him that the job is for a car not for an 18 wheeler truck or a Jet . Depending on Location, a lot of people with know how will do it for less than a thousand or may be 500. Just keep on looking, trust me its worth it. You could use that extra money for other stuff for your car. |

Hold on ToYSport is charging the most $1500 for labor? and about $4000 total? Those A$$holes!! ok maybe its b/c i live in Los Angeles, but they are chagring me $1750 for labor and almost $6000 total and they won't let me get all of what i want. i.e. I asked him to put in an ACT stage II clutch in he said NO, that its a piece of $**t. I think he said he was gunna put a bolt 6 (or something like that) Worst of all i gave him a deposit already. But the only thing is that trdcelicagt is right. I do want it done right the 1st time. Its ok though i have friends that will do SOOOOO much work (i.e MR2 tranny, hks TT, FMIC, gauges, and some others) for me also and very cheap, almost nothing. |
