Just checking if anyone in here have some knowledge about the second generation RX-7s.. I'm thinking of buying one as a second car.

The only thing I know is that it's a 87-mod RX-7 with a 1.3 litre Wankel (rotary)engine. Getting a bit confused over the naming though. We have the FC, FD, FD3S and probably alot more.. What is what? I know they come from about 150 hp, and all the way up to 210+ hp.

Google will only give me japanese pages and people who sell stuff. I know I used to have some information pages about the old Mazdas, but can't find them anymore.

they come in N/A models and the T2 models if your refering to second gens and the are commonley refered as FC's.

Rotarys are just about good to 100k after that point they need a rebuild or they will blow up. The N/A model is real peppy (150hp), the T2 is insanly fast for what it is(230hp). Be prepared not to haul anything around and have no extra space what so ever. If you know rotarys or are willing to learn, or have a mechinc that is fully trained in them get one, if not dont even get near one.

My buddy has a T2 which hes selling and its been the car from hell, 2 engines, 4 turbos, blowing random things all the time. Rotarys / RX7's require full time maintence and be prepared to replace anything at anytime.

I was actually thinking about this:
Mazda RX-7

141 000 km (about 90 000 miles) and 150 hp (just got off the phone with the guy selling it). It's the NA version. He wants only 49 900 NOK (about 6 000$) for it and that's a pretty good price. The car isn't registered and not approved (some stupid Europe Union directive) so I would probably have to get a small discount to cover those things.

I'm gonna talk with the bank and the insurrance company tomorrow to see if I can work something out. The car I have no problem paying for, but the insurrance might kill me. Since I'm paying almost 2 000$ a year on the Celica already.

When the seller comes home after about a week on holidays he is posting more pictures and some more info on the car for me and I will probably decide then.

Clipsetuner: So they call all second gens for FC? Are the third gens called FD then?

FC is just the model of the car - chassic code.

FC3S - 2nd generation rx7
FD3S - 3rd generation rx7

just like our ST205 is the Celica GT4, and SW20 is a 2nd gen MR2.

You'll hear alot of people refer to the cars by the code to separate the models.

If I said RX7, that can mean alot of things. If I said a Turbo FC. You know exactly what I got.

Just like AE86 - you probably know what I'm talking about. Better saying that, than 'oh, a Corolla'

EDIT: Found a nice site for chassis codes CLICK ME

I dont think they are using SR20 as the chassis code. It seems that the SR20 versions of the 180SX hatch and the Silvia coupe (240sx hatch/coupe here in America) have different chassis codes based on the engines they have. Thus PS13 is a early 90's silvia with a SR20. But still commonly referred to as the S13.

Fun TIME! I own a B15, AW11, and a A32 w00t11!!!1!

EDIT: One thing I never got. Why are Mitsubishi's never referred to in chassis code. Mazda, Nissan, and most of Toyota all use chassis talk.... but not Mitsu - all engine codes. Like my 2G with a 4G in it. All engine codes.

Is that car rebuilt? Cause to my knowledge after reading on that RX-7 forum the T2 (RX-7 Turbo II) came in 89-92, and you said that it was a 88.

230 hp with a turbo was on the 93+ models, and I believe in 94 or 95 it was boosted to 255. I looked at an 87 t2 and when I researched it they only claimed 180 hp, and depending on where you looked 130-140 for the NA. Great cars though, very fun

Found a cheaper T2 in Germany smile.gif

91-model with ~200 hp. 160 000 km (overhaul by Mazda at 100 000 km). Grey metalic paint and AC. The guy wants 3 990 Euro (about 4 000$ US) and this is alot cheaper than the other RX-7 N/A already in Norway. Also a bit newer (4 years).

Contacted seller to see if he is interested in shipping the car from Germany for me. Everything on the car seems to be in good order (visually atleast). I asked him to give a statement about the technical condition of things.

I will of course still use my Celica as a daily driver, but I think this will be a fun car to play around with and maybe do some street racing smile.gif

your fine as long as you have the celica as a daily driver. the t2 will be a good learning experience and a very nice car. although dont expect it to run well all the time. more down time then driveability is common and stupid problems happen all the time.

just remember no matter how much money you spend fixing the damn thing, you will always love the rx7 and never want to sell it.

I guess that goes for both cars.. (the love part). The Celica will probably always have a place in my heart and it's use in everyday life. But the combination lots of hp + new car = expensive here in Norway. That RX-7 would have costed me almost 30 000$ US only in taxes if it wasn't for the age (14 years old). That's why I'm going for an old car when choosing my "play" car. It probably won't be reliable (Toyota reliable atleast) but to drive 2-3k miles every year it should hold up pretty good. I'm just waiting for the seller to respond now and I'm sure I should have an answer in the next week or so.

Turbo model came in 87 and had 182 hp, then in 89 it got 200 hp. NA came in 86 and have 146 hp. Anything 93+ isn't a FC any longer and hence isn't a topic of this thread.
