I got Ground Control Coilovers right now. I am probably going to put stock springs back on cuz the bumps in the road are crazy and the coilovers are hard so they dont do much absorbing. I want to be low but wana ride in some comfort. My question is..... Has anyone cut their stock springs b-4? And if yes then how many coils???
Let me know. Aight Peace ![]() This post has been edited by CeliNProgress: May 16, 2005 - 7:16 AM |

Actually if you cut springs just alittle and dont get them really hot (ie: use a cutoff tool) you wont notice a difference if your struts are good. Wonder how i know? Because i have done it a few times. If you use a torch or cut ALOT of the coils off then yes it will be crappy!

No matter what it is a bad idea. Your stock springs are not only made to be a certain height but also to hold a certain weight. And yea it may not be too bad if you have good struts, but you will ruin them in a few weeks after anyways. I have had many friends that have done this and they regret it, just raise your ground controls or get new struts. Three legged dogs can walk, but they can't run.

I'd have to agree with what everyone else has said already;
Get new springs and/or new struts. Coilovers are meant to be rock solid, they're just not practical enough for road use. (My friend has coilovers on his car and has to take some corners slowly otherwise the car will bounce over the bumps in the road and towards the kerb/sidewalk). :-S -------------------- |

I'm a cut spring king ... What TRD6GC said about ride height & weight it's ture, It's true. BUT if you use diffrent stiffer springs it will ride better..
The problem is not the spring it's the height of the struts if you want drop it ,most or us want to close the gap above the tire (wright) the shock or insert are the stock height if you drop the car with springs cut, lowered, heated or coil overs in a matter of time the shock will bottom out. now if you can get the 98gt susp it is lowered 1.5inch so you would only need to lower you car 1to1.5inch and there you go... The only other way is to get custom shock, or some for the GT-4... |

i would not bother getting cut springs..
get some tanable springs. they are design to lower the car with ride comfort in mind. ![]() |
