Ok, so I have a Toyota Factory Alarm that came with the Celica. It's the one with the valet mode as well as motion sensing radar detection. I'm quite satisfied with the alarm, the motion sensing thing is pretty cool biggrin.gif.

Recently, my remote has broken down and won't send a signal to the car (it's not the battery but the connection itself I think). I was quoted, at best, $140 Aus to replace and recode the OEM factory remote from Toyota.

$140 seems quite steep for a bit of plastic and wires, so I was thinking that maybe it would be better to get an aftermarket alarm installed, however I'm not sure which one and whether it is worth it or not. Obviously if I do go that route I'd be willing to spend a decent amount if its worth the money. Any suggestions?

You guys get factory proximity sensors over there? Are you sure your current alarm is stock?

that's the security system that mine is... my remote says that on it... i also only have one... and i doubt it's stock... because the wiring isn't "professional" ... as in the brain is electric-taped/heatshrinked... and not all "pro" ... ill load a pic of it when i get a chance

I have the Toyota Vehicle Security System (TVSS).

Remote's part number is 08191-20810.

I'm pretty sure it's stock, or at least a dealer option that was installed.

And yes it came with a Toyota manual for it.

*Bump*

So, nobody knows how this toyota alarm compares to aftermarket?

If I was to get a decent aftermarket alarm with proximity sensors, what would be recommended?

Hey Coso
I recommend you should get the Mongoose MA80 or MA60.
These alarm have alot of options to cater what your looking for (microwave, shock sensor, radar, tilt sensor etc).
Its has black wiring and is insurance approved.
That was the alarm I was looking at to get for my car and alot of peoples have recommended this alarm to me.
Do your research on this alarm.
The only other alarm I would recommend would be the "Flashpoint" range.
But beware these alarm are pretty expensive.

Does everyone have the two button alarm? The top one locks door/sets alarm, but I can't figure out what the bottom one does...

My original remote for my 94 just has one button on it, but when I decided to get another remote they sold me one with two buttons. The RS3000 system manual says that the second button is so that if you've got two toyotas you can program your other car to unlock/disarm when you press the bottom button. Here's the link to the manual if you want to try and change your sensor settings.
