Ok so the trans finally blew in celica sooo i decided now would be as good of a time as any to start engine build/swap.

I have decided to go the N/A 4age route more then likely one of the 20v's.

What do you guys think? Ill be completley ripping the engine apart as soon as i get it. Replacing most of the internals.

id get the black top 20v... its a lot different then what most people think of it of just 5hp more then the silver top. also the black top is MAP based and is easier to tune in my opinion.

i also heard the silvertop is way over rated. it is actually like 10 hp less than what is advertised. id say go with the blacktop.

Yes the Silvertop is overrated by about 10-15 horsepower.

But, according to what I've read, the silvertop handles boost much better.

you want a really cool 20v black top

get the motor and throw the 7afe blcok under it with some custom rods stock BT pistons

now you have 1.8L n/a blacktop motor

oh and get the 6speed wink.gif

but just a blacktop with 6 speed would be cool also

yea your 3sgte is cool but ill stick to my 7agte

Yes, if you are going all n/a, go with either a Blacktop or a 2ZZGE.

for na, get the black top. The pistons/rods are freakin -a- light, the engine also has higher lift on the cams than the silver top. The ITB's are also larger. Because it is map based, you can remove the restrictive intake plenum, or housing, and run the ITB's with some sort of low restriction intake set up.

I personally would turbo the silvertop.. but that's just me.

Aye i would probably turbo the silvertop as well but i want just a N/A engine... just dont see to many of them on here.

So you think stock pistons rods will be fine in it? I know the aftermarket for the 20v's isnt that great. I was thinking about changing them or boring it slightly over to bump up the compression a bit more.

I'm actually looking into a blacktop swap in my 93 ST right now with the 6spd transmission. That would be one awesome ride, especially with the throttle bodies run open-element with some nice velocity stacks. You can also use the Ford EDIS-4 from the 1.9L Tempo/Tracer coupled with Megasquirt and make some great power with it. If you wanna go NA, that's the best route. You will pay the price though.

If you decide to go silvertop, Jarco is getting an AE101 clip in this week and selling for $1650.

I came to this discovery a long time ago. Not many N/A cars ehh? there might be a reason. wink.gif

A cheaply turboed 7a will outrun a blacktop 6spd hands down in the straight line. It would have more hp. and torque. In an AutoX match, the drivers would decide.

I disagree. Based on dyno results of a 7AFTE (around 8-10 psi)... I don't think it can out run the blacktop 20V by much in the 1/4 mile. AE111's have proven overseas to be very formidable, and the blacktop is a much better set-up than a silvertop. It'll be very close. On a circuit, the 7AFTE *might* be able to win... on a closed short track, the 20V will win easily. This is assuming the engines are in the same cars.
