So the engine is rebuilt, installed in the car, goodies installed: light fly, ACT stage 1 clutch, KDB 4-2-1 tri "Y" header, Megasquirt'n'Spark, Ford EDIS, Ford Coilpack, ford 36-1 crank trigger wheel, B18C plug wires, TRD .5mm headgasket, custom waterline relocation kit, etc etc... Now to the wiring. Dropping in the engine is the EASY part.
Let me start by saying Megasquirt wiring is EXTREMELY easy compared to the stock ECU... so don't underestimate the headache. Enjoy... This post has been edited by Kwanza26: Jun 7, 2005 - 10:26 PM -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... I'm an artist!"

QUOTE(Hanyo @ Jun 8, 2005 - 11:57 PM) sweet... so when are you going to drop that motor into your celica? If this turns out well... I'm gonna drop in a 3rd gen 3SGE, slap on some ITBs, throw on some fat cams, and megasquirt the sucka... ;] On a side note, the engine ran today... on carb cleaner... hehe... having some trouble getting the injectors to open, but it should be sorted out sooner or later. You 3SGTE guys might wanna consider megasquirting rather than dealing with stock wiring. Sure it may be more reliable with the stock stuff, but Megasquirt will make future tuning a breeze... ;] -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... I'm an artist!"

That's all very reassuring. I can't wait to get started on my 3S. Where did you buy your megasquirt and EDIS at?

I've spliced a harness or 2 and compared ot the MS I just wired up on my VW it was a breeze. Can I get a pic of your mounting of the EDIS wheel and sensor. I'm looking for ideas on how to mount mine. |

EDIS can be found in just about all 90's Ford Escorts in the junkyard. EDIS is probably the only cool thing Ford ever came up with... ;] Check here for exactly what you need: http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra/ed...hatyouneed.html As for the Megasquirt, you'll need a slightly modified version of the megasquirt board. There are a couple of changes made to the resistors inside the unit. I don't know exactly what, but not just any old Megasquirt ECU will work with the EDIS set-up. Gotta be Megasquirt and Spark (MSnS). I bought mine fully assembled and set-up for MSnS... all I did was load up the firmware and got it ready to go. They usually go for around 120-150 un-assembled, and 250-400 assembled. I'm not confident enough with my electrical skills to try and build one, but I hear it's very easy and the instructions are very good. QUOTE(Fox-N-It2) Can I get a pic of your mounting of the EDIS wheel and sensor. I'm looking for ideas on how to mount mine. I'll try and get some pictures for you tomorrow. On a side note, after 2 days of fumbling around unable to get the injectors to open, got everything working today and got the engine up and running... =] Gonna finish up the harness then it's time for some tuning. -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... The injector timing or pulse width must be directly related to the ignition signals... actually that's not wierd at all it makes perfect sense after I think about it. -------------------- Project ST204.5 99.88946% complete... |

I apologize for these questions, but I have not been following this swap. What engine is that out of, and what are you estimated specs? Also, please explain the EDIS. And a HUGE comment on only putting things in the engine bay that need to be in the engine bay. Engine and engine contributes (fuel, exaust, intake, ;ignition). After you are finished, you should balance out the car, more than likely, relocation of the battery will occour.

Well I've got an answer for the Ford EDIS question. It is an Electronic Distributorless Ignition System. The spark's dwell and timing is controlled by the ECU and EDIS module instead of by the distributor. If I remember correctly the system is also "wasted spark" meaning one coil provides spark for two cylinders. One spark is "wasted" because at the same time one cylinder is on it's compression stroke the other is on its exhaust stroke. EDIS is about the best thing to come out of Ford in the 90's Its found on 91-95 ford escorts for the 4 cyl version. You can usually find it on ebay for $75-100 for the complete setup. It integrates very well with Megasquirt. |

QUOTE(Fox-N-It2) Any pics of that trigger wheel setup yet wink.gif Greetings from Missouri... =] I'm out of town right now (on a roadtrip), but I did take pictures of the trigger wheel and VR sensor set-up. Only problem, I haven't uploaded anything yet. I do have some various shots that do show the outside of the motor I took a long while ago. QUOTE(spunky393) I apologize for these questions, but I have not been following this swap. What engine is that out of, and what are you estimated specs? Also, please explain the EDIS. I don't think anyone has been following anything more that I've mentioned so far. ;] Umm... basically it's a 4AGE 20V in my RWD Corolla... modified cooling system, some basic modifications, and standalone ecu with EDIS distributor-less ignition. The "swapping" part is very easy, and will more-or-less be a direct drop in for the Celica ST. The wiring part too, is farily easy, and very straight-foreward, even easier because you can use the stock ignition parts in the Celica. The beauty of the swap is the tunability... I would expect something around 130-140whp out of this swap, but chances are the engine is gonna be further modified by the time I get finished. To close... the engine now runs and needs tuning... that's gotta wait till I get back in a week or two. Megat Tweak 3k will be a good friend of your now. Get to know him becaus your gonna spend a few days with him. I've been tuning my car all week and I now have it very nice in the cruise rpm's hitting 14.7AFR's on the LM-1 wideband. I could prolly lean it out a bit more but boost is comming. Make sure you read the documentation that comes with MST3K it has very useful info reguarding EGO feedback and tuning for low and high rpm's. Do you haev a wideband? Nows the time Innovate's LC-1 would be a good solution. You setup looks good man and it should make that corolla come out of some turns sideways |
