> Project Highbeam Intake, ... i dunno! :x

The Project: Removing both High Beam's completely and replacing them with Intakes with the Air Filter's sitting directly in the High Beam housing.

The Plan: From the Intake Manifold, as a single pipe being attached, the 3" pipe will split into 2 seperate 3" pipes that will be mandrel bent into place to fit in the engine bay and line up to both High Beam housings. Both pipes with be cut slanted at the ends, and welded together to create one solid 3" end to sit the Intake Manifold (I think you can picture how they will need to be cut).

The Hypothesis: We are doing this for ****s and giggles mostly, to see what kind of performance we can come up with. What we are expecting is alot of forced air into the Intake Manifold (obviously). We discussed modifications to the engine very lightly, like adjustments to the A/F Ratio as well as better Fuel Pump and Injector's to handle the engine running rich with Air. We kind of thought we might damage the engine running this much forced air, but the 7AFE won't be around much longer, so i'm going to have fun with it and see what we can come up with. As far as a HP gain, i'm hoping to pull at least 10HP-15HP out of this, which might be pushing it. Thats including the upgrade in Fuel Pump and injectors, so i'm offically going to say 13HP.

We are going to the drawing board this Sunday in hopes to start getting the piping measure out and welded. I hope to see some good results!

Sounds interesting.....let us know how it turns out wink.gif Also, how are you going to be able to turn on your high- beams once theyre out? Can you transplant some kinda headlight dimmer/wiring setup from another car that will let you switch to high-beams with one set of lights??

now are you going to make a box or housing for both of the filters? if they dont have a box most of the air will just go around the filter, it will have to be forced in, hence the name, ram air

I strongly suggest you dont do this!!!

I did this about a year and a half ago on my celi...

It worked awesome but god was it ugly! im serious it desnt look good at all!

I finally took the system off cuz It just bugged me way Too much - so my suggestion.. dont wast the money on it but if you deside to do it then best of luck with it!

BTW I wouldnt do 3 inch all the way through.. its too much air and even bigger injectors and such wont cut it.. I started out with 3 inch and I went down to 2 inch for the Y sections and 3 inch for the single part... you will get more than 13 Hp outta this though... alot more

From the link Phatty posted that is going to look INCREDIBLY UGLY!

I'd only do this mod if I was racing the car, why not just do some sort of funnel/intake in the plastic underbody or EVEN BETTER - HOOD SCOOPS, because they will look 50 times better, and perform just as well - if not better because the air has less distance to travel.

Good luck if you are still gonna go thru with it tho.

I like to go the way of looking good and functional. I'm sure it will work very well, but I personally don't like to sacrifice something that I use all the time (like my highbeams) for something else. I like to have them both.

I'd have to agree with supersprynt. If you're going to mod it, go ahead and make the front flush with the rest of the front bumper. go ahead and get a small grille and paint it black or the same color as yor car. That damn thing looks like some sort of secret squirrel gatling gun stickin out of the bumper.

Major racing teams remove the head lamp assembly and replace it with a CAI, it is a pretty normal thing to do on track cars, just have to ensure all other stuf A/F etc.. adjusted, and dont drive at Night! tongue.gif
