Ok, after searching and not coming up with anything clear cut:
What are the factory soundsystem setups, I.E. head unit combinations, speaker setups, amps??, speaker sizes, ect. I'm mainly trying to figure out what exactly I have in my 99 GT so I can rip them out and throw in better things. I plan to stick with the stock size and throw a sub in the back (probably a single 12, not sure yet). I have what looks to be component speakers in the front doors, but I haven't taken a close look at the rear side speakers yet. Can I get some guidance please?? Usually crutchfield is pretty good about showing what's in there, but it blew chunks this time. -------------------- |

As I am currently working on my speakers I can say that:
- original speakers are Infinity - front is 8 1/8" - rear is 6 3/4" They were playing perfectly until I have put in new Sony X-Plode player and gave them hell. Well, 11 years old speakers could not survive that. I hope I did not mix up anything recalculating from centimeters to inches. -------------------- '94 ST202 - tuned, highly apprieciated, but sold.

The speaker sizes above are correct (assuming you have power locks and windows). If you cant find 8" speakers for the front, there are adapters available to make it a 6 3/4 inch hole on ebay, or you can just make your own with a flat piece of plastic.
As far as head units go, I believe there are 2 different kinds. The first is just an AM/FM stereo that has all of the amplification built into the stereo, just like most aftermarket head units. In that case you will just need a basic wiring harness avaiable at any store that sells car audio equipment (even walmart). The other is a CD player on the top half of the dash opening, and a casette player in the lower half of the dash that are connected together. This setup usually has an external amplifer that is located directly below the stereo head units. I believe you can unplug the wires that come from the car to the amplifier, and use a wiring harness like above, but you will need to extend the wires so that there long enough to reach all the way up to your new head unit. I am not positive that the harness has the same plug though. For mine, I just tested each wire to figure out what it was with a voltometer because my head unit has no amplifier, so I didnt need to worry about finding which speaker wires were which. Here is a how to on installing a stereo For speaker setups, the power window/lock celicas have 2 or 3 speaker componenets in the front, and all 6g celicas have a single full range speaker in the back. The 2 component setups have a tweeter and 8" woofer hole The 3 component setups have a tweeter, 8" woofer and i think a 4" midrange near the door handles. |

My setup is as follows:
Double din factory head unit: Top half is tape player, bottom half is CD player. Component speakers in the front doors with the tweeters located on the back panel to the mirror mounts, and I haven't a clue what the back side panels house. -------------------- |

Oh ok. I believe you can switch them around however you like because mine originally was cd player on top. So you will probably have a factory amplifier. And you probably have a 8" hole in front and a 6 3/4 inch" in back. |

Do you have the bigger driver in the bottom of the door and then 4" speakers higher up in the doors?

I don't believe so. I just have a big speaker grille in the lower portion of the door and then a tweeter in the panel behind the mirror mount. -------------------- |

QUOTE(1900WattCelica @ Jul 26, 2005 - 8:41 AM) Cool. So do you have any more questions? Actually yes, now that I KNOW that I have the 6 speaker system: What exactly are the speaker sizes I have and what aftermarket sizes fit?? I think I have the following: 1" Tweeter in door behind mirror 6 3/4" Woofer in door 6 3/4" Woofer in rear side panels. And I assume that the same sizes fit fine with the aftermarket stuff (plan on going components in the front doors, coaxials in the side panels, and a 12" sub in the back). FYI I haven't made up my mind if I want to go with Alpine for the speakers or splurge on the Infinity Kappa stuff yet. I have an all Infinity Kappa setup in one of my Trans Am's, but I don't know if I can justify spending that on the Celi. -------------------- |

To be completely honest in all my speaker setups, I think Alpine Type R sounds better than Infinity Kappa components. Just my opinion.
QUOTE I think I have the following: 1" Tweeter in door behind mirror 6 3/4" Woofer in door 6 3/4" Woofer in rear side panels. All of that is correct except for the fronts. If you have power windows/locks....The hole is actually an 8" hole. You can get adapters for 6 3/4 speakers on ebay however, or just look in the how tos for making your own custom bracket. QUOTE And I assume that the same sizes fit fine with the aftermarket stuff (plan on going components in the front doors, coaxials in the side panels, and a 12" sub in the back). Yep. You will need 6 1/2" or 6 3/4 in the back. Dont count on the speaker holes lining up, you will probably just need to drill a new hole into the stock mounting brackets, which is pretty easy. In the front like I said the hole is 8", which means as long as your speaker isnt too deep for the window to come down, 8" should be a direct fit. If you want to go smaller, you will need a bracket of some sort. |

Well.....
I'm probably going to just use a 6 3/4" component in the front doors because of availability. The rear is going to be getting a set of Infinity Kappa 6 1/2"S (6 3/4") out of my Trans Am. This is the three way coaxial with the crossover with the tweeter coming through the center of the speaker through the woofer cone. I had this in my original sail panel factory sub location in the T/A with the woofer hooked up ONLY, but didn't like how it distorted because of the design. So I'm picking up a set of 6 3/4" woofers from an Alpine set of components for $25 and putting those in to the Trans Am, and I'm putting the Infinity speakers into the Celi! Kinda hooked myself up! What I'd LIKE to see in the back of the Celi is a single 12" Infinity Perfect dual coil subwoofer taking power from an Alpine V12 amp. We shall see though. -------------------- |

I have just got a pair for like 130$. Hmmm, I have just checked US site of Infinity and seems that you do not get 8003i. Pity. Heck, I have a pair of IL50 Tower speakers in my house even. -------------------- |

SHoot, that's not a bad deal. Not bad at all. I don't necessarily want a used component though. Certain things I'll take a chance on, but speakers probably isn't one of them.
