For those of you who have a piggy back unit. How did you fool your ECU?
I want to know cause im about to install megasquirt and I want to know where my injector wires that connect the ECU would go? |

Just out of curiosity, why don't you just use the Megasquirt for fuel and spark and remove the factory ECU altogether?

I also was looking at using the Megasquirt on my car my question is can you use your factory harness?

The thing is coomer, I really dont want to add edis to my car right now, because I would have to add the trigger disc and that seems to be more work than just the wires itself. The other thing is I'm not to sure if I can even program the unit let alone all the spark tables. If they at least have made a guide for an idiot for the 4age then I would attempt to go at it.

I'm confused about what you are asking? I would be pretty weary of installing the megasquirt and allowing the ecu to handle spark. It might advance/retard at stupid times and open/close the egr if you still have that at stupid times. As far as wiring the injectors did you get a relay board? Megasquirt isn't sequential so you will end up wiring all 4 injectors to bank 1 and they fire at the same time. Most of the time you only use bank 2 if you have 6+ cylinders or water sprayers.

That's not how megasquirt works. If you're looking for a piggyback... mesgasquirt is not for you. If you wanna do something easy... megasquirt is not for you. Megasquirt controls injector pulses and fueling... it completely overrides the ECU's fuel control... so there is no "piggyback" so to speak. Megasquirt basically detaches the injectors from the stock computer.

If you haven't already, check out www.msefi.com Look up "Megasquirt n' Spark", that's the setup you want. You can set the MS up to control your stock distributor system, basically.
The current project in my shop is an '89 MR2 with a 4AGE 20v Silvertop and MS n' EDIS, I'll post the updates for you all if you want. -Doc This post has been edited by Dr_Tweak: Sep 4, 2005 - 4:30 PM -------------------- -Dr Tweak, 6GC's resident engine swap wiring expert extraordinaire Click here to see my swaps drtweak@phoenixtuning.com |

You don't need it I was just wondering how you were doing the setup. The relay board does make wiring a lot easier. After my friend and I soldered wires onto the sensors I think we did the final wireup in 10 mintues.

What kind of ignition does the 4a silvertop use? After looking at the megasquirt boards there have been people using msns -e and -edis on the stock systems without having to install a seperate vr wheel. I think I remember people mentioning vast, esa, and a few toyota dizzy/gm sensor systems. You might be able to setup a plug and play without having to alter too much on the engine

The AE101 4A-GE uses an ESA system I believe.

Here is a link from a guy getting an stock esa system to work with msns -e http://www.msefi.com/viewtopic.php?t=10564...ight=toyota+esa
You might need to join the board to access this. He has access to a scope though which would make the job a lot easier, don't know how well a fluke meter would handle ignition pulses to diagnose the link. This post has been edited by Snarfer: Sep 5, 2005 - 9:55 PM |
