I would think 5sfe but would that even make that big of a difference since im gonna be pushin 250 horse? Thanks

IMO I wouldn't use a GT tranny with a st205 3s-gte. It is too weak. I would find a cheap MR-2 tranny and use it. Ask RJB23 about his tranny and pricing

I agree with Dustin. Or use the v6 solara tranny and put in a LSD.
-------------------- QUOTE(lagos @ Jul 10, 2006 - 1:55 PM) i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this. |

Stick with the GT tranny, if your milage is low it will hold up fine.
You're gonna need a hybrid clutch kit, if you are going to keep the GT tranny. Get all the correct mounts, and take your time do the swap right. Google Spec clutchs and flywheels, they can make you a custom hybrid kit. I'm running a stage 3 kit with no problems at all. Lagos is also running a stage 3 kit using a GT tranny. EDIT: I know of guys using the GT tranny, they are beating the hell out of it. It takes the abuse just fine Edited again, I'm not mean lol. It looked like I was. Good luck DEF -------------------- I will return one day. |

I think the best set up is this persons tranny ^. 3sge.
so far people are having trouble with axels. I remember doggy beafing up his ST tranny, I wonder if any has done that to the gt tranny. Too bad doggy has been too busy lately to help shed some light on this process. |

Im with defgeph, you should be just fine with the stock Gt trans and a hybrid clutch. The trick is do not slam it in gear speed shifting at redline all the time as that will wear it out rather quick. Have fun, but take it easy. There are many 250+ to the wheel hp/tq daily drivers using n/a transaxles. Its not the toughest but if you take it easy it will do just fine. Mr2 93 plus Lsd trans would be the best route in my opinion but not a MUST have.

thanks for the replies guys...looks like im gonna go with the...
Upgraded 3SGTE Pressure plate Upgraded 3SGTE Clutch disc with splines for 5SFE (custom made by spec) Upgraded 5SFE throw out bearing i have been told to hold out on the flywheel, and just use the stock 3sgte one..so that will probably be the set up...i know the mr2 or solara trans are better but if the gt tranny will hold up, i gotta take my chances with that.. anything else?? |

I think when the GT tranny stays healthy in combinartion with a 3S-GTE, it's because you'll have a lot of slip with FWD, so the actual load on the tranny is very limited. Or are there people taking this combination to a race track?
You mentioned the V6 Solara. The Solara is the sports version of the Camry, right? You can use the tranny of any Camry V6 VCV10, it's an E153 like the MR2 Turbo has, minus the LSD. |

idk...im of the opinion that the gt tranny will work well provided your not constantly SLAMMING gears ect...
ive got close to 250hp at the crank, and prolly in the nighborhood of 265+ ft lbs...and have had ZERO tranny issues, even at the track. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)
