I have a 95 GTS and I was driving on the highway for about 2 hours with cruise set (80mph). When I was coming into the city I turned cruise off and my engine seemed to be misfiring or something like that. There was a sort of vibration and it seemed that there was no real response to when I gave it gas. It is hard to explain. This happened for about a minute as I was slowing down and coming into the city. Then all of a sudden my check engine light came on. The light then went out after about a minute of constant driving at around 35mph. Then as I slowed down for a traffic light, the light came on again and the engine was having its problem again. This happened a few times as I made it to my home. The light went on and off maybe 4 times as I drove to my house.

I was hoping that someone might have some suggestions as to what this may be. I am wondering if it is maybe my spark plugs causing my ignition timing to be off, or maybe my intake or possibly the map sensor? Any suggestions that you may have would be great. Thanks.

Was it just your wiring to the plugs that were loose or did you need to adjust the gap on the plugs, or brand new plugs all together?

Just go get new plugs, they arent much. Definetlly could be it. Even if it doesnt fix it, new plugs are always good.

Any recommendation on plugs? What are the best plugs out there from experience?

In case anyone was wondering, it turned out to be my throttle position sensor that was causing my problems.

I dont think anyone mentioned it but since you have a 94-95 you can find out what the check engine light means by jumping two terminals in your diagnosis port since it is OBD-1. Do a google search on toyota check engine light codes and it will tell you how.
