I'm gonna be installing Sirius and a GPS navagation system and I'm trying to get some ideas on where to put the antennas for each. The manufacturer says that you shouldn't paint them. Any ideas?

no ideas? If it's gonna be inside, it needs to be near a window in order to get the signal.

near a window that rolls down or just near some glass? no experience with it myself. but i'd just try using double sided tape in a variety of locations, and see what gives pest performance. maybe on the front of the dash. our windshields are pretty big and sloped so that might be enough of an opening to get good reception.

Will the wire fit between the gap in the hatch and the body? You could put it in the center just forward of the hatch as long as it doesn't leak. It's just a little black box isn't it? I've only seen a couple of the sirius setups before.

Well, I was trying to avoid putting them on the OUTSIDE cuz they are kinda ugly. Not to mention some a-hole could come along and rip the thing right off the car just to be a d1ck. So I was thinking about finding a place INSIDE the car to mount them. Yes they are little black boxes about the same height as a credit card but half the length. One for GPS and one for Sirius.
I might just end up mounting one on each front corner of the dash. -------------------- |

Ok even if i want to run the antenna out by the hatch/roof, I can't do it cuz the plugs for the antennas won't fit through the gap at the top of the hatch. I would have to take the hatch off in order to do it.

i have both my XM and GPS antenna's inside my gps antenna is centered and my xm is in the corner. with my past experiences with sirius though is that they don't have as many ground repeaters as xm so it gets better reception on the outside of the car, my favorite mounting spot would be in the middle in front of the sunroof.

hey
I just installed satellite radio in my hatchback celica. I put the antenna just infront of the rear window washer nossle. The antenna reciever is magnetic. I ran the wire into the closest crack between the hatch and roof panel. then I ran the wire to the rubber washer hose insulator. Using a zip tie secure it there. Run it over toward the drivers side along the hatch to the other rubber wire insulator. Then also zip tie it there. Run the wire around hinge and under the rubber hatch seal and then under the healiner or plastic trim panel all the way to the front. It looks really good and you cant see the wires hardly at all. If you want pics let me know. Hope this helps. let me know. |
