Well my new celica 94 gt with 132,000 miles grinds when I go to shift into 3rd gear at high rpm. Like around 4500 rpm and above. Otherwise it shifts perfectly normal, no other issues......Not happy about this as I just installed a centerforce clutch.... I installed mobil synthetic oil..
-Does another oil help with this???

-THe synchro must be going......

-What are my options......

-What do they cost???? Thanks guys....

it sure does sound like the synchro

are there any other problems you're having with it?

put some GM-synchromesh in your car, then drive it for a couple days, after that it should shift way better at high rpm. It worked for me!

i have a 7afe with 160+k miles and it grinds in 2nd and 3rd, a good transmission oil flush and refill should COULD work! try that...i haven't tried it yet because its winter here, snow everywhere and its cold, so i'll wait till spring to change it, oh yeah , it's also a daily driver

when you change the oil take note of any 'gold' colored particles. thats brass from the synchros, if you have alot then its a possibility that the grinding has been your synchros because they're worn out and not spinning the next gear upto speed for smooth engagment. that grinding is really the teeth of your 3rd gear clashing with the gear on the cluster shaft, its possible that if this has been happening for some time or happens often that you may have damaged some teeth, altho the teeth are pretty hard and thats unlikely but not impossible.

If it's syncro's (which it is) then your only options are taking it to a shop. The internals of a tranny are beyond even expieranced DiY'ers. But DEFINITLY try the tranny flush and syncromesh fluid. Much more cost effective and could potentially solve the problem for the time being.

NOOB question, but how would you 'flush' the tranny? that's not the same as draining it and then refilling, is it?

Flush tranny = Drain and refill tranny.
