Well I just put my new clutch in the old 94 Gt celica that I just bought and lets say she isn't the quickest thing around. I only drove it before with a slipping clutch. So I was wondering
-Are there any performance chips out there that make an actual difference in power on this car? What do they cost? What are the names of the companies? -I beleive our motor is tuned for mileage and I was wondering if there was a chip that could make a difference here? |

Not even sure that the Toyota ECU is actually 'chippable'. Might have to be a stand alone or piggy back unit.

I did a search on this website and it didn't work. That has happened before to me. So I was wondering if anyone has done something like this and what the results were?
-E-bay has all kinds of weird stuff and I don't know if it does anything you can tell like this? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Toyota-Celi...1QQcmdZViewItem |

anything "chip" and "ebay" is crap. There is no easy way to chip and tune a Toyota ECU.

the basic reply is ... no there are no rom chips for our cars. your best bet is to get some mild gains from an intake and ehxuast. then think about turbo options if you want to take it beyond that.

Seems to be the biggest problem in the 5sfe is it runs rich, as far as ECU. A SAFC2 is going to give you control over that, and be your best bet. From what I've heard, and this is from a guy who built a 5sfe na, intake/header/exhaust, then safc2, then porting. He said those were the biggest gains he got. He also said, if he had to do it over, he would just have put a 3rd gen 3sge in it at first. He said he spent enough money trying to make power out of the 5sfe to do the swap 3 times. But those 4 things shouldn't cost too much as long as you buy the right stuff. Like the guys above me said, the 5sfe is not a real sport motor. Take it for what it is. It'll never make serious power, but it can be fun to play with.

Go to Nopi.com. Jet Performance offers a new PROM that they'll solder into your ECU. Costs about $300 or so. I haven't personally done this but it is one route to consider; though you have to give up driving the car for awhile while Jet does the work.
An SAFC ii is made by Apexi. It is an aftermarket fuel management system which allows you to adjust injector duty cycle at specific RPM ranges. They're pretty much a universal fit and require some splicing into the factory ECU harness. The cool part is that it's adjustable. The only downsides are the wiring and the cost. I think they run around $400. www.apexi.com (really high quality JDM aftermarket parts) www.horsepowerfreaks.com (aftermarket parts retailer) -Speed |

Just so you guys know, all those eBay "chips" are is a in-line plug in module between the IAT harness and the sensor. And all it conatins is a simple resistor designed to tell the computer that the IAT's are much colder than they actually are, which tricks the computer into advancing the ignition timing. But, that could actually be dangerous because if your car is running on the ragged edge of timing anyway, and you trick it into a further advance.....hello knock city.
