Hey guys
I'm just curious on where you're at with the V6 swap. Could you give us a brief overview of what you did so far and what kind of problems you encountered? maybe even some picts? reason for the post instead of pm is to share information Unfortunately for me, i'm still searching for a 3MZ and related parts. -------------------- ----------------------6GC's FIRST V6----------------------

celicast3sgte - Ya boom!
K-ESD - Well I really dont have a update as of much, I found a shinning 97 White GT hatch that im looking into gettin... other then that not many celica's in the area. I am wanting to get my perfect dream celica this time White GT hatch so that one would be perfect. There are a few issues I am still try'n to work out, I have a 1MZ allready, no harness, no ECU, but they are a dime a dozen for Auto's.. Which still enlies the problem of finding a Manual ECU and Harness. So this is how it stands at the moment Ive been talking with Fast 1 Motor Sports about down the line boosting my car, It will happen just when. This is the problem with gettin a 96+ Celica tho... OBDII... I am looking at running full stand-alone ECU, but still stay'n smog legal. There is no way I can get out of Smog and without running a ODBII styled EMS (estimated cost 2k) I dont see anyway around this. I am thinking my best bet would be to get a 94-95. Any Ideas? Basicly Other then that Ive got everything from my GT parts car so ST or GT base this doesnt really matter. Ive also got a near perfect Interior out of my 96. I have the Cage lined up threw DawgHouseKustoms (local certified welding shop), and basicly any part you can think of sitting in my room. DTE -------------------- I am a thief.

i'm glad you're still at it.
that wreck is nasty ! what the hell happened? also, have you looked at ground pins on the auto ECU which would change the logic to one of the manual? I remember coming across something like that while i was browsing around mr2oc best of luck with your project, i can't wait to see some results -------------------- ----------------------6GC's FIRST V6----------------------

Yeap we have a V6 swap scheduled for sure, it's going to be in June I think, after I get moved down there and bang out a couple other swaps. Customer is on here, name is... hmmm, maybe he want's to reveal himself so I'll leave it for now. But he's on here And he already bought the engine, and he's gathering all the parts.
Don't worry, I'll have a blow by blow report for you as it happens -Doc -------------------- -Dr Tweak, 6GC's resident engine swap wiring expert extraordinaire Click here to see my swaps drtweak@phoenixtuning.com |

QUOTE(mattifikation @ Apr 3, 2006 - 1:34 AM) Uhhh out of curiosity, what engine is being used? Actually we'll be using the 3MZFE, which is a little bigger at 3.3 liters, but the R&D will be the same as a 1MZ swap. -Doc -------------------- -Dr Tweak, 6GC's resident engine swap wiring expert extraordinaire Click here to see my swaps drtweak@phoenixtuning.com |

hey doc, the engine you will be working with, isn't it a 3mz bottom end with 1mz top end?
how are you planning on taking on the wiring job? -------------------- ----------------------6GC's FIRST V6----------------------

hahaha, i never doubted that
i'm just curious on how you're going to get around the auto ECU codes, secondary speed sensor and EVAP systems. I have a pretty good understanding of what needs to be done but getting someone else's plot would be great, concidering what i know is purely theoretical. i'm an electrical engineering student, still in my junior year. Electrical is my speciality too Fooling ECUs is just not something i have played with yet. I would certainly appreciate if you would share your knowlege with me (and everyone reading). Don't worry, you're already way ahead of me, u'll certainly get the "first 6th gen v6 swap" honor. -------------------- ----------------------6GC's FIRST V6----------------------

QUOTE(brad bedell - mr2oc.com) So far, the ECU is happy. 3 15ohm 25 watt resistors to ground and one 5.1ohm resistor on the SLN- and SLN+ pins. this is the diagram of the tranny pinout of the ECU that needs to be fooled This is from a 01 solara manual, paintbrushed to add some resistors and values (edit: redrawn to make it look nicer) I'm going to be messing around with the 3mz ECU, which is slightly diffrent This post has been edited by K-ESD: Apr 3, 2006 - 3:08 PM -------------------- ----------------------6GC's FIRST V6----------------------

yep, hopefuly i'll be able to get my hands on the DBW pedal if not...
this is where my engineering skills will come in handy, i will have to build my own 2 pot accelerator, i would just need to find the numbers, either get them from toyota or "borrow" a camry and measure it myself. then plug that sucker into the ECU. Idealy, i'd like to be able to control the DBW wire independantly to eleminate the ECU lag, but the ECU might not like that very much.... also while i was messing around with that 01 diagram, i noticed that ECU only have a primary speed sensor, the 3MZ ecu has 2. this is going to be tricky unless both sensors put out the same signal. what do you think doc? for the EVAP, i think the best way to go is to adapt the camry EVAP system completely other than that, my other concerns are the imobilizer system / air conditioning and cruize control (converted to DBW) -------------------- ----------------------6GC's FIRST V6----------------------

Im so glad I have a 1MZ!
I just wish I had a celica... Anyways no updates really just thought I would add onto this thread because there are only a few of us that are doing the V6. Well I chose the 1mz because its a cheaper swap, no DBW, among other things. I think down the line doing a 3MZ/1MZ hybrid might be something I consider but not at this point. Ive only read about DBW systems and it doesnt seem like its gonna be fun to wire past. So a few questions for K-ESD and Tweaker. Would it be worth it to adapt a 5spd solara harness? Are either of your engines from Automatics? If so why bother adapting a Auto ECU, when there are 5spd ECU's? So is the goal to get them to run off stock ECU's for a purpose? I have 2 local shops that want todo Standalone's, I just cant justify the cost on a stock motor. Also I plan on boosting down the line, is the stock ECU up to par or is a Standalone better off? I know 5spd v6 1mz's are out there, I am still currently try'n to track a harness and ECU so if anyone has any leads please let me know. -------------------- I am a thief.

the 3MZ is auto only and i'll be using a 99' solara 5spd, no manual ECU available for it. only way to make it work is to fool the ECU or go $tandalone
tweak, if i'm not mistaken, will have a 1mz/3mz hybrid with a 1mz ECU BUT it too only comes in automatic, no vvti 1mz or 3mz came with manual trannies and for your 1mz, assuming it's a non vvti, you can use a auto ECU, apparently manual ECU and auto ECU are the same, only dif is how they are grounded. Contact sbcelicagt on mr2oc.com, he could tell you more about it since he's the one that figured it out.
