I am currently on a search for a newer 7afe and before i put it in my DAILYDRIVER i was wondering whats the best way to get a little more out of it without supercharge or turbo i am on a budget of about 400 dollars and i would like to just force a little out of it. Im gunna do the swap myself and i just want to do everything to it b4 i do the swap so any feed back at all would be great. Oh and its an automatic.

I honestly dont know where to even start with this project but like i said just squeeze some more out of it besides the intake and exaust. I am gunna have a frind make a full exaust for me and i was thinkin about a 2.5 inch to much or not?

Thanks,
Brad

not much potential in a 7afe. especially a non-turbo automatic. but if that's the way you wanna go... then the usual headers, intake, and exhaust will give you a few extra horses. since you're swapping it in, might as well do a full engine rebuild. other than that, i'm not really sure what else you can do.

1. pull the little tube that feeds up into the stock air box
2. a decent header
3. adjust the timing some
4. 2.5 is a little large for a NA 1.8L 2 inches all the way back is a good size
5. replace maintence items like the fuel sock and filter, plugs, wires, ignition parts, run some injector cleaner through, ect.

6. dyno and be disappointed but not mad because you spent about 1/2 of your budget and most of your gains were free.

i'm in pretty much the same boat as you (same engine, nearly same trans, both cars weigh nearly the same). its not fast but its got more grunt and pickup than you'd expect from a 13yr old 1.8L econo-engine.

3sgte, or 4age 20v are you 2 best bets

the auto
1. wont rev high enough for some of the motors
2. wont take the power of some of the motors

i'd say the limit on the auto would be about 150whp before things start to slip and overheat badly. anyone know for sure?

there are aftermarket parts for both motors, no you do not want to go automajic with these motors, and no you can not make it as fast as a 3sgte...

Good luck with that, at least it will fit your car better than ours.

Also I think that a lot of people take the 7AFE for granted. When I was looking at cars to buy I test drove mostly 90's Hondas and Acuras and one Ford. All were gutless with thier 1.8L and a manual compared to the St that I have. Even more so now that I have added the intake and exhaust. Yes it isn't no rally car but it gets me around pretty quick and for $5k off the lot and less than $50 a month for insurance it kills all the others. Oh not to mention about 400 miles to a fill-up with highway miles.

thats if the seller ever responds to me. the picture in the add was a generic one, ive asked for a picture of the actual product. ive sent 2 emails and not gotten a responce, but its only been about a day and 1/2.

if i dont hear something soon, he included his name and adress, i reversed and got his number. i'll just call and talk to him directly.

i do agree that the 7afe is pretty torquey for a 1.8L, having an auto kills some of it, but it'll put down on those 1994 4 door 1.6L automatic non vtec civics laugh.gif
